Trigger thumb/finger

Recently developed this in my right hand, and it’s bloody painful! Been referred by GP for X-ray. In the meantime, just wondering if anyone has found any treatment helpful? I’ve googled splints/gloves. Do they help? Any advice would be most welcome! Thanks.

My husband has had this twice now on both hands, the only remedy unfortunately was surgery, was successful in both cases. I had Carpal Tunnel syndrome for ages and had surgery last year - it didn't make a scrap of difference! Yet other people I know have had good outcomes.
