Why do EVs burst into flames and lock everyone inside when they crash?

Any idea?

I always remember Bubble Cars having the same problem. Having the door on the front meant that if you parked too close to a wall you were stuck inside because they had no reverse gear.Same if they were involved in a crash for obvious reasons. Very cute though and I still want a bright red one.

Even jet liner doors can be opened manually. Not sure whoever thought than making car doors that can trap you inside the car (regardless of whether it's a battery or petrol engine) wasn't a very stupid idea.

China has now banned doors on EVs that can't be opened mechanically.

EVs very rarely burst in flames, according to Swedish Government research you are 20x more likely to be in a vehicle fire in ICE car than an EV, and that was for NMC or lithium ion batteries.  LFP are even less likely to catch fire and Sodium ion batteries are even safer than that.There are some EVs which are badly designed and can lock in a fire if the 12v battery is damaged.  Google search suggests this is mostly a Tesla problem, I would not buy any car which does not have mechanical door handles
