Taking a lodger under the “rent-a-room” tax-free scheme?
E, an Eritrean refugee who has stayed with me for a few months, is looking to rent a room as a lodger - preferably under the government “rent-a-room” scheme - which exempts the first £7,500 a year earned from tax if people take a lodger into their home. He is a pleasant young man: clean, tidy, quiet with good English.Serious coffee habit but otherwise unremarkable. He would make a good lodger. He has a part-time job that he hopes to build up to full-time in the next few months and is also studying data analysis.
