Surreal he should pass away just before Christmas. He comprised his Xmas classic "Driving home for Christmas" when stuck under London traffic lights in jams driving home to Middlesbrough.

He has been ill for years - I remember seeing him on that fishing programme with Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer - and Brian Bilston wrote a poem...

Unfortunately the cumulative effects of his many illnesses caught up with him. He had most of his pancreas and a large part of his liver removed over 40 years of due to cancer. He was passionate about his cars and owned a number of Ferraris. I never had the pleasure of meeting him myself but know people who did and they all said what an absolutely sweet man he was.Sincere condolences to his family and very many friends.

Nice bloke and very talented. Had the pleasure of a couple of hours chatting with him once. Very humble and not the least interested in fame and celebrity. Preferred his cars to guitars most of the time.

"He comprised his Xmas classic "Driving home for Christmas" when stuck under London traffic lights in jams driving home to Middlesbrough."I just read that he said wrote this song when he got banned from driving, and was driven home instead...
