Marks and Spencer opening

Does anyone know where we can see an actual opening date for the old/new M&S? I know it says Autumn, and that will be in case they need to move the dates, but I was hoping someone might have some insider knowledge? Thanks

Our George IV source says week of December 8th and it appears, from what we hear, they are hell-bent on doing that.

That's really interesting but I think having just reconfirmed a few weeks before the likely opening date, they must be reasonably confident although clearly not to the point of being able to specify exactly when.If it doesn't open until the second half of December, it will be a nightmare for staff having to get to new layouts, equipment and colleagues right at the busiest time of the year.

When I last looked at the Christmas ordering for M&S there was no option to collect in Chiswick suggesting a lack of certainty from them about being open in time for Christmas.

Three wishes for the long awaited return:Retention of the ATM (Cash dispenser).More manned checkouts (not everybody favours self-checkouts, which can also attract the dishonest shopper). Reopening of the back door, coupled with regular security attendance.

The issue with asbestos seems to have been identified quite some time ago - see the article linked to below which also discusses how 'autumn' is defined and it was written in July.I think the delay at the moment is more likely due to the fitting out of the Fulham Broadway store which is ongoing at the moment. This is due to open next month and I would guess that the same contractor will then come in to do the work in Chiswick. A neighbour asked the workmen last week. Apparently they have found asbestos on the site which has slowed work down considerably and they weren't confident it would be finished before Chrstmas. Don't quote me on that but worth mentioning.

When I worked (briefly) for the Foreign Office everything was due in 'the Autumn' I asked for precision.Old hands said clearly - that means 24th December.

When asked the workmen shrug their shoulders so I will give you my educated guess- The opening week in December or even late November.Marks coin an awful amount of money every Xmas and there is no way management intend missing out on this seasonal bonanza.
