Shoplifters returning to CHR

There does seem to be a pattern to this - I have two friends who live just off CHR and they say they regularly see drug deals taking place. My knowledge of how this is policed comes mainly from The Wire and I believe even if a drug deal is caught on camera, it wouldn't justify an arrest. However, the dealers avoid being caught on camera because they know that if there is sufficient evidence to convince a magistrate that a restrictive order is justified, they will effectively be banned from an area. The advice you'd get from people who have been plagued with this problem is not to get frustrated with an apparent lack of police action and keep feeding them reports every time you see something you believe to be untoward. The more of this kind of information they have, the greater the chance of them being able to take action.

Drug deals are regularly carried out in our road and even though I could identify the people and they are known to the Police, nothing is done. I guess they use our road because there is no CCTV.

No they wouldn't use facial recognition but just to see the face would help.

I'm told the thieves on foot are generally know to the shops, their security people and the police so identification is not really an issue. In the recent update from the police it was revealed that CCTV played a part in letting them know a prolific offender was back in town, which I would assume was down to a sharp eyed individual at the CCTV control centre. To the best of my knowledge, facial recognition technology has never been used on Chiswick High Road.Thieves using a car do have to be mindful of CCTV. Hopefully all the ANPR cameras around will immediately flat a stolen, fake or missing plate.

They don't seem bothered about cameras, think they are trying to stop face coverings though which may help.

While I don't dispute that happened, theft like this probably represents a tiny fraction of that taking place on the High Road. Shoplifting is a very low yield crime and Chiswick is plastered with CCTV so, even if you stole the car to do this, the risk of being caught is high particularly as you are in a bottle neck and the reward is, at best a couple of hundred quid.M&S have to make the calculation as to whether the extra custom brought in by having a rear exit compensates for extra losses due to theft. It would seem mighty strange for them, having designed in the new access, to ditch the idea especially as shoplifting on the High Road seems to have peaked over a year ago.Where can I get cheap Malbec in Chiswick? By my reckoning prices have gone up so far this year due to the new strength related duty.

Two or more exits would be welcomed by many customers I'm sure. Apparently thieves would drive up to the rear entrance and drive off with the car loaded with wine.Julian, I was visiting a friend at her home yesterday evening.I learnt that the cost of malbec, bought in Chiswick, had been considerably reduced much to her delight.

Hmmmm. The designs of the new store clearly show an upgraded entrance on Chiswick Common Road and the stated intention is to activate this frontage. Shoplifting obviously remains a problem in the area but was probably worse when these plans were drawn up. It would be very odd for M&S to design in a two entrance (three exit if you count the bakery store) and then not at least trial it to see how it goes.

In conversation with a M&S employee this evening, over a glass of Malbec I learnt that the new, revamped Marks will retain only the one entrance/exit.This decision was based primarily on gangs coming in and emptying the wine shelves with impunity.
