Warning - some Mid Chiswick Streets no unrestricted Sunday parking

From this coming Sunday it will not be possible to park for free on streets such as Windmill Road, Elliott Road and parts of Chiswick Common Road. The restrictions which apply on weekdays will now also apply on Sundays mainly to resident bays.  So do let people know in order to avoid unwelcome parking tickets this Sunday. Check signs carefully. The restrictions have been brought in after a long three year process as residents found themselves unable to park near their own homes on Sundays.   Other streets like Linden Gardens have had similar restrictions for a long time and there are some restrictions in East Chiswick. But there are still several places where free parking is possible on a Sunday in Chiswick.

There is no significant parking pressure in the SOTG CPZ on Sunday afternoons unlike in Mid-Chiswick. People come for a nice day by the river and, as they may have parked there many times before, it doesn't occur to them that there are no restrictions. Unfortunately I believe they don't conclude 'next time I will check' but rather 'next time I will go somewhere else'.

They are definitely enforcing the new restrictions - only a few streets are affected in the Central Chiswick area - there are plenty of nearby streets where there is still unrestricted parking.

I did see a traffic warden in the area Sunday midday, so they are enforcing the new restrictions. I'm pretty sure it was the same guy I spotted by the river later that afternoon. I was meeting friends who had driven and hadn't spotted the changed signs. Luckily they were able to book themselves in for parking on the app but that still meant they had to leave earlier than we would have wished. I can understand why residents might not want to be overwhelmed by visitors parked cars on Sundays but the way these restrictions have been set up just seem calculated to harm the pub trade.

It wasn’t a market day but there was the West London LGBT Festival on so CHR was busy. I saw a couple of cars with parking tickets on Elliott Road.  Next week will be more of a test.

I was on Chiswick Common Road yesterday around midday and didn't notice any signs of undue parking stress or the traffic conflicts that used occur on busy market days. I was only briefly on the High Road so it didn't register which, if any, market was taking place.While I didn't see and traffic wardens in the area, they were in evidence a few hours later in the SoTG CPZ making hay with drivers caught out by the afternoon parking restriction.

I was there mid-morning and the car park was filling up but not full. Presumably most drivers thought that the prospect of free parking all day was too good to be true. For the next two Sundays it is given over to market traders.

I walked through the Mid Chiswick CPZ a short time ago. The council has put a second layer of white tape over the 'Mon - Sat' wording so you now can no longer see it. There doesn't seem to be much pressure on parking as the Bond Street car park is almost totally empty even though the Monday to Saturday restrictions still apply meaning, I think, you could park there all day for free. That of course is before the shops open.

I can't say for sure whether or not I have seen traffic wardens patrolling on Sundays in Chiswick. They certainly aren't a common site on that day. It will be interesting to see if they are out in force or if the contractor decides paying staff weekend rates isn't justified to put on extra shifts just to patrol a few streets.

The deal with parking on a Bank Holiday in a CPZ where restrictions are in force 7 days a week is almost certainly that the restrictions that apply on the Sunday will apply on Bank Holidays.

And to add to the potential parking confusion this coming weekend, what's the deal with parking on a Bank Holiday?As for the PaddleBat company, I guess they could continue their cavalier attitude to the site and set up parking lanes on the Common under 'Parking in connection with the recreational use of the open space' or some such, and if anyone complains, bog things down by applying for retrospective permission!

"There will probably be a bonanza for the borough's parking wardens for the next four Sundays at least." Unless they are on bonuses for tickets issued. The enforcement officers are normally sitting in Ladbroke's on their phones.

Probably won't have much impact on them as there is plenty of free Sunday parking nearby including in Bedford Park Zone B. Also the chances are the restrictions won't be enforced on Sunday evening.

I didn't see any posters but the existing signage has been altered by sticking white tape over 'Mon - Sat'. However, the original wording still remains visible.It is the Street Food market this weekend which doesn't seem to attract a huge number of outside visitors but the closure of the M&S car park has been making things problematical already. The real challenge comes next month when the Flower Markets (which brings in the most visitors) and the Antiques Market (which has the highest level of trader parking) return. There will probably be a bonanza for the borough's parking wardens for the next four Sundays at least.

It must have been frustrating that it took 3 years to get this through - it was always rare to find an empty parking space on Elliot Road or Windmill Road but as a non-resident who was just looking to park for 2-3 hours it didn't matter to me whether I parked north or south of CHR.

Yes there is some signage but it is rather "discreet" and they have just "rubbed" out Monday to Saturday so you have to intelligently draw the conclusion that restrictions are now Monday to Sunday.  There are some posters mentioning it - but they are again very discreet.  So lots of people are going to miss it. I don't know if they are going to give a free warning on the first Sunday - they haven't told us, we are only the local residents...

Thanks for the warning - I can just imagine that people will get caught out on day 1. It would be nice to think that there might be some signage up in the area notifying people that the restrictions have now been extended to include Sundays and that first time infringers get a warning rather than a PCN, at least in the first week or two.Presumably it will be 9am-7pm?
