Thames water smart meter

Received letter from Thames Water Smart meter now compulsory. Anyone else  receive such letter?

And the mayor of London has done absolutely NOTHING to stop Thames Water from dumping millions of litres of raw sewage and rain water into the River Thames. And Tony Blair / Gordon Brown did NOTHING  to hold the toothless regulator, OFWAT, accountable or WaterVoice equally responsible. Likewise DEFRA wasn’t fit for purpose. Interesting when you see how many past OFWAT directors ended up on the Board of Thames Water!!

And Thames Water continue to dump waste water into the rivers. “ The number of most serious water pollution incidents rose by 60% last year, according to data covering England, with three companies responsible for the bulk of them.The Environment Agency (EA) - under fire for its own oversight of water firms' pollution performance - said that more than 80% of the 75 instances of pollution in its two most serious categories were the responsibility of Thames Water (33), Southern Water (15) and Yorkshire Water (13).But the body added it had found "consistently poor performance" across all nine water and wastewater firms in the country - a similar summary to that of 2023.”

They do say try not to waste water at this time, save washing up water for garden etc., to avoid a ban.

There are currently no hosepipes bans in London.

There are hosepipe bans.  People in other parts of the country are going to have reservoirs foisted on them and homes there will be lost because Londoners are using too much water in their opinion.Water meters make it easier to find any water leaks that there are which also just has to be a good thing - so long as we also report them and we make sure they fix them.As for dumping sewage in the rivers - it would be good if we had a much better pipework system with fewer combined rainwater and sewage outlets which when there are sudden floods have been emptied into our rivers (fewer now we have the supersewer).  Instead of those if we used more water butts we wouldn't have so many overflows and floods when we get those much greater sudden  rainshowers.

Write back to them and tell them its compulsory to stop dumping sewage in the rivers.
