I think and hope they are waiting for funding for another project - perhaps like the Fixing Factory that was running at Park Royal. So many projects now depend on grants now that grants to Councils from Govt have been so reduced. Jeremy you make it sound so very neighbourly and civilised but it isn't.  Also people really just can't deal with change.  They don't want to have to look up online/they can't be bothered to look up online even if they are able to  etc to see if somewhere is open and they would just turn up with stuff whether or not it was acceptable and when they found that it was closed dump it either there or around the corner - possibly as they are still doing now - old habits die hard - very hard.Whether we like it or not we have a system where the disposal of business waste has to be paid for (it is not included in business rates) and household waste is included Council Tax yet many try and buck the system and that is what was happening at Stirling Road and why Stirling Road had a weighbridge. We are moving to a circular economy and have been for very many years and a lot of work has been done and is continuing looking for more sustainable ways of manufacturing and then dealing with waste instead of the dump and run model we as users of the sites had become used to. It all needs to be viewed as a resource and to do that it needs to be organised from cradle to grave. There is no magic 'away' in 'throw it away'.  There never has been.  Everywhere is someone else's backyard and we are now more aware of the consequences everywhere. It was my nearest HW&RC but just about anything can be recycled now either in the Council's kerbside collection or nearby at a supermarket or electricals shop or by calling TRAID or finding another company that specialises in particular equipment. Both Hammersmith & Ealing now have a Library of Things where you can borrow electrical and other equipment for some of those one-off jobs.  That also gives a chance to try some equipment out and learn what you would or wouldn't ever bother to buy and clutter up your life with!I don't think there is anything to stop residents sharing collections or sharing trips.  We used to do that as neighbours.
