Disappeared Bins Strand on the Green

Inexplicably, the two bins by the fountain at the beginning of Strand on the Green disappeared several weeks ago….predictably, poo bags and litter are now being dropped there ……… hello Hounslow ???

But sadly, not all people do.And sometimes if I see some rubbish and there's a bin nearby, I'll put that rubbish in the bin. I'm not going to take someone else's rubbish home though.

It's easy,  just take your rubbish home. You managed to take it there so why can't you take it back as well?

I contacted the Council about this a week or so ago, on behalf of the Grove Park Group, and have since been reassured that the Council did not themselves remove the bins. An order for replacement has been issued,which can take up to 28 days to fulfil. The bins were most likely either stolen for scrap or thrown in the river.

When I was on Cabinet I had a standing instruction that no bins could be removed without my approval. Occasionally the 'normal' plastic wrapped bins were destroyed by fire when someone dumped a hot barbecue or fag end and set it on fire.I suggest you write to my successor Shivraj.Grewal@hounslow.gov.uk and alert him to the problem.

Does my memory serve me right that these were metal bins in a heritage style? If so perhaps they were stolen for scrap value?
