Well done Napoli on the Road

Voted the best pizzeria outside Italy ... that's quite an achievement.Well done Michele Pascarella and his team.

After Chris Bur’s reported experience they may have to adjust their level of cockiness. People don’t forget bad experiences which is why places frequented today are shunned tomorrow. We see it time and time again and in the restaurant business you cannot afford to be arrogant no matter how good you may think you are.

Their level of cockiness after they won the first award was off the scale whenever we tried to book, a la 'You know we're the best pizza place, right?'. Wouldn't bother trying again, however, I hope - for their sake - they've got a never-ending queue of eager diners on the back of this new award.

Well, we`ve been there once last summer... No a good experence.Pizza was a little burned around the top and not cooked in the middle. Service was rather rude I found. The place is quite small, to maximise profit you sit at tiny tables your "neighbours" are so close you can not strech your armes.Feels like sardines in a tin.Won`t go back any time soon.

Crisp went viral after a review by Dave Portnoy, formerly of Barstool Sports, who now travels the world giving his “One Bite” reviews of Pizza. Crisp got a very high score. His review included stepping in chewing gum, a dachshund and the British love of pints.The owner of Crisp is the grandson of the former landlady, he was born in a room above the pub. He decided on a New York style “pie” (pizza) and spent lockdown perfecting the offering.Yes, it can be a bit of a wait for a pizza but a couple of pints of Guinness whilst chatting to others similarly waiting is an enjoyable way to spend the time. I quite enjoy the whole process.

If you fancy burgers rather than pizza, the Chancellors pub (home of Crisp) is handy for a drink after going to Sam's Kitchen Hammersmith.  Sam's Kitchen there has a similar menu during the day to Sam's Kitchen on Turnham Green Terrace, but the Hammersmith branch turns into a burger restaurant in the evening.

"A run-of-the-mill pub serving decent pizza." - Yes, that sums it up quite nicely, perhaps I would add it's a pleasant, slightly off the beaten track pub. You'd be unlikely to stumble across it.Thanks also for the Base Face recommendation.

I think Crisp has done a good job tapping into some social media influencers hence the hype/overhype.I thought it was fine.  A run-of-the-mill pub serving decent pizza. Chiswick-based food critic Andy Hayler covered it recently.https://www.andyhayler.com/restaurant/crisp-pizza

They are very good and deserve an award but of course we don’t know who else entered the competition.  Others locally that I would rate very highly are Base Face who are the best thing to come out of the pandemic!

I've never been either.On a pizza related sidenote, there's a pub in Crisp Road, in Hammersmith, called the Chancellors. It's near Riverside Studios. It got rebranded as Crisp Pizza at the Chancellors, a few years ago.I've been there about three times, the first time before it got rebranded. The Pizza was pretty good. Since then, for some reason, it's got almost a cult reputation, with people who have come from the far flung places e.g. the US on holiday making a point of going there, and complaining if they'd run out of Pizza dough - you can't book, you just have to turn up and wait. I'm pretty sure it's the same people making the pizzas now as it was when I first went - the pizzas look and taste the same.I've no idea what happened to raise its profile.Pizza Pilgrims is usually very nice.

The article in Time Out indicates that they were voted somehow but then the link they provide for the Richmond branch doesn’t even list them in the top 15 restaurants in Richmond. I’ve never tried them so have no idea. Until reading this Time Out article I didn’t even know they existed in Richmond but it’s probably worth giving them a try and see if they compete with my all time favourite in Florence.
