Has the White Company decided against opening?

Does anyone know if the white company is still going ahead with opening a store at the old rock and rose site? Work seemed to have begun a month ago, and now nothing? Doesn’t look very promising…

Maybe I am looking at the wrong account, but the White Company hasn't posted on Twitter for over two years. They did post on LinkedIn in February shortly after reports were published about their plans that they were aiming for a June open so they could still be on track for that.

As they would have known what the rent was when they took on the lease, I doubt that is the reason for the slow fitting out . Crew seem to have managed to open only a few weeks after signing their lease. One possible reason is rates - you don't pay them if the shop isn't open so maybe they have decided to wait until after the summer when turnover is likely to be higher.

I am not surprised.  I speculated that Chiswick would not be right for them.  I like their product but they are expensive and the returns would not meet their costs.

Probably, the rent for the premises far exceeded their takings and any common sense for opening a business in the area. I remember the Spelt bread shop that closed several years ago, was paying 100k per year on rent alone. Who justifies all that for goodness sake?
