Resident permit question

Our resident permit expires tomorrow but we have not received the new one yet. Can a parking warden see that we have applied for a new one when they scan our current permit or is it linked to the registration?In other words ... will we get a ticket?

Tomorrow is Saturday and most CPZ restrictions are Monday through Friday in Ealing and Hounslow. So you may have a weekend reprieve.The permit is linked to car registration, not a previous permit.

I would leave a note on the dashboard saying " New permit applied for, awaiting delivery". You normally get some grace.

You used to get 2 weeks grace, but don’t hold me to that. But, as mentioned above, I would put a note in the window to alert the warden to the awaited permit

In addition to a windscreen note you might try emailinghounslow.permits@nsl.co.uk to enquire about your permit’s status and any grace period info (if you live in the Hounslow part of Chiswick, that is)! 🤞🏻

There are no longer any physical paper permits issued. Your registration number will be in the system and should be ok. I had big problems when applied for mine in July as I could not register on the portal despite password resets and temporary passwords being issued . I eventually paid over the the phone and the only email I got was a receipt for the amount paid. I never received an email confirming my permit had been issued. I haven’t had a ticket so so I assume all is ok

Because Chiswick spans two boroughs, Ealing and Hounslow. One gives paper permits, the other does not.

In LBHF you get two weeks grace - though I know that's not useful for you Chris as you live in LBH.I'd be slightly surprised that LBH issue permits that don't run to the end of the month ... unless it's a temporary permit for a new vehicle?

I live in Hounslow. Paid for renewed permit from July and have not received a permit. The acknowledgment email is in the car window and we have not received a ticket.

Hounslow council has not yet moved to digital parking permits and, as I understand it, residents should display a permit in their cars. If you haven't had your permit, please contact one of your ward councillors who can do two things: ensure you are not fined for failing to display a permit while waiting for it; and ask for the permit to be reissued if it has been posted but hasn't reached you.

Hounslow has just announced a switch to virtual permits but it sounds like if yours doesn't expire before Feb 28 you must still display a paper permit. (See front page for details)

In answer to Chris's original question, I'm assuming now that a digital system is in place all permits are essentially digital so that if you have a paper permit but don't display it, that doesn't matter because the wardens are checking registrations against the system. However, might be worth double checking that by emailing the address given earlier just to be sure.

Ealing Council saw a big surge in PCN revenue from CPZ when they switched to virtual permits. The wardens will probably now use ANPR tech to scan registrations which will mean they can carry out checks more quickly.

..but with no paper permits, wardens must have to take time to ANPR scan every car rather than just spotting those without a windscreen sticker.

That's a good point but it was Ealing claiming the surge in PCNs was down to digitisation. It could be that they are covering up for more incentivisation of wardens to issue tickets or maybe the ANPR reading devices are very high tech and can read and check regs as they wardens cycle by on their mopeds.
