Mawson Arms / Fox and Hounds RIP Official

Not unexpected but sad news nonetheless that this historic pub is to become flats. The pub where Fullers staff stopped after work to relax. It was also the meeting point where they used to start the brewery tours (do they still do them?). I had my 50th there, a while ago now. Hired a live band, the works.

There is short explanation of how it became the pub with two names in the article about the plan which doesn't mention two brothers falling out but your version is more interesting so I'm going with that.

They do indeed still do the brewery tours. My son and I took a friend there a few years ago and a good time was had by one and all. It depends who the guide is as I think tourists get a different ending than we ale buffs did!

Many years ago when I lived in Chiswick Lane, I used to play pool here and was informed by a regular that these pubs were once only one and owned by two brothers who had an almighty argument one day.The upshot was they formed separate bubs, giving each a different name, and never made up their differences.

Hi MikeYes, gone the way of the Feathers. Hardly ideal for flats but no doubt they will go for obscene amounts if and when it is converted..There seems to be little move on the Duke of York in Fraser Street. It's boarded up but not sufficiently to keep the weather out. A Fullers pub site 1834, it is a fine example of the improved public house after its rebuilding in 1927.We need another John Betjeman.
