Fireworks

Someone is still letting off fireworks - it's nearly two weeks after Guy Fawkes night, for goodness sake. We have heard fireworks nearly every evening for a month and it is getting out of hand.Only last week a three-month-old baby red panda died at Edinburgh zoo owing to stress from the noise of fireworks in the city. I worry for our local wildlife.Surely it is time to ban fireworks outside of public displays on specified days (e.g. 5th November, Diwali, New Year's Eve, Chinese New Year only).

Fireworks should be banned. They cause massive air and noise pollution and are a fire and health hazard. They serve no useful purpose.

For the conservation work and breeding programs definitely, as source of entertainment not at all.  I do suppose however that the latter pays a large part of the former.

Personally I love foreworks but there were very few public displays this year. Not sure how the reduction of public displays will stop garden fireworks but there you go.

I've seen people with these cords attached to their dogs to stop them getting out of control in public parks, worth a try if you're worried.

Dogs cause significantly more deaths to wildlife and farm animals than a few fireworks. You have chosen to bring a dog into an urban environment. I would put the blame for any upset to your dog closer to home.

Please sign the petitions, there are several doing the rounds.  My usually calm dog was spooked by an incredibly loud and close firework in the local park and bolted straight to the main road where luckily a quick-thinking dog lover got him into her car. Wildlife, domestic, farm and zoo  animals are incredibly stressed and upset by fireworks, including a horse this year who had to be put down after severely injuring himself in his stable. Other countries and even regions of the UK specify bans in certain areas, or only allow low noise fireworks.  Sick of totally inconsiderate selfish people.
