Pedestrian knocked over on Chiswick High Road

At 9.08 this morning I witnessed a pedestrian being knocked over by an electric scooter on Chiswick High Road at the junction with Dukes Avenue. The lady was crossing on the green man. Several passers by came to assist. She was lying on the road and did not seem to be moving much. I had to drive on to prevent blocking the traffic. When I reached my destination I realised I had dash cam footage of the incident on my car should the police or victim require it.

It might be worth a try but, if Michael's numbers are accurate, most of the traffic cutting through is non-local, therefore, while you would get the benefit of residents being able to make a quick getaway onto the A4 you would probably still have a serious problem on Sutton Court Road. If you don't have a car and rely on the bus it will be of little comfort to you that your neighbour has what will be more or less a private access road to the A4.On the other hand, this problem is likely to get worse with the H&F restriction on Rivercourt Road which will inevitably increase the numbers turning off at Dukes Avenue to go north. If there is serious congestion on the A4 eastbound this might end up being a substantial number. A tit for tat banning of non-Hounslow residents might be justified.

LTNs don’t stop pedestrians being knocked over by cyclists

Introduce LTNs and use ANPRS to allow any vehicle registered to a Chiswick address to go in and out of them. Charge a yearly fee if you like. This would reduce pollution and rat running and allow Chiswick residents to get around locally without having to join a traffic jam that takes them 30mins out of their way to complete what would otherwise be a 5min journey.Makes perfect sense to me, unlike the current system.

You have been proposing this for some time and the council seems to be unwilling even to consider it, so perhaps you should ponder why this might be.You don't need to be 'carbrained' to see that there is a capacity issue for traffic going southbound on Sutton Court Road. Making this the only point of access to the A4 will mean that the number of instances when traffic including buses tails back up to Heathfield Terrace increases. This already appears to be happening anyway due to an increase in congestion on the A4 which we have to assume increases as Heathrow continues to grow and the massive amount of development on the A4 corridor comes online.

It's the obvious solution. A founder of OneChiswick has been complaining vociferously on social media about vehicle volumes and speed on Wavendon Avenue as well so a LTN for the whole area bounded by A4, Dukes, SCR and CHR looks like it would be well received.Now that Councilor Biddolph has crossed the aisle by supporting proposals to restrict parking in central Chiswick, perhaps residents could persuade her to support more car restrictions in this area ....

From previous traffic surveys, about 90% of vehicles turning into Dukes Ave from Chiswick High Rd are driving straight through, most to the A4 but there is also a secondary rat-run to Sutton Court Rd via Barrowgate/Wavendon.If the Dukes Ave rat-runs were closed off, the lights at the Dukes Ave / CHR junction may not even be needed.  There could be pavement build-outs to improve the pedestrian experience along CHR.I know the carbrained will immediately howl that closing off the rat-run will immediately bring the entire area to a standstill but there is an similar situation in the area bounded by CHR, the A4, east of Chiswick Lane.  Through traffic isn't possible between those roads and lights aren't necessary at the junctions of Homefield etc,

One easy way to mitigate this would be to allow cyclists to turn left into Duke Road. Anyone scrupulously obeying the rules wanting to go south at this point has to continue to Dukes Avenue with the long wait. If it was clearly signed to drivers coming out of Dukes Road that there was two way operation for cyclists at this point the risk of collision here would be reduced.

The wait time at Dukes Avenue is very long and many cyclists have worked out that staying in the general traffic lanes is much quicker here.For those that do stay in the cycle lane, observance of the red light is about 50% with most of the people ignoring it being delivery riders. I've never seen anyone on an electric scooter wait for a green light.
