Can you believe it!

So Welby is happy to preach to the nation but he is too weak and pathetic to actually take responsibility and act on his own moralistic values. Instead he claims he has  had to take advice from others and will not resign. What a coward.

Yes, of course, get the CofE to pull out from running and supporting schools and close the Education Service at Church House  and in the Dioceses. Around 35% of schools, many in deprived areas without a single Christian pupil would close if CofE support both practical and financial, was withdrawn.

Thank you for your answer to my question. I am not in the habit of watching televisions news, so had missed this. I've now googled Cathy Newman/Welby and found the reference. It's surprising it wasn't picked up by print media.

Keep up Robert. The interview with Ch4’s Cathy Newman has been aired about 50 times since yesterday on multiple channels. She confronted him head on on why he hasn’t resigned and he was perfectly clear that he had thought about it but had taken advice and was advised not to resign.

Totally agree, Julie This particular Archbishop is particularly arrogant and sanctimonious at the same time and it’s just wrong that he uses the House of Lords as a platform to spew his nonsense.

Archbishop Welby probably should resign However, I haven't been able to find any reference to the claim that "he has had to take advice from others and will not resign". Is that yet another invention of yours to justify your own moralistic bull-in-a-chinashop raging? If not, sources, please!

I would say this is not cowardice but the usual religious arrogance from a lifetime of sophistry. Commissioning one report into the abuse and then sitting on that while commissioning a second one while all the time hoping he can get to the end of his tenure before the scandal broke is a well used technique perfected by the Catholic church. And it was only the other week the Chiswick Seventh Day Adventists got their turn in the spotlight on Channel 4 news for their part in protecting another abuser. Hopefully with the reform of the Lords where hopefully we can kick the bishops out we can take another step towards separating State and Church. More urgent is to stop religions running schools — especially primary schools — where filling young impressionable minds with sanctimonious stories is tantamount to grooming.
