Ruth Cadbury has been elected Chair of the Transport Select Committee (cross party committee of MPs scrutinising the work of the Department for Transport).Which is nice.

“ well as reversing the worrying trend of decline in cycling across the country”It can’t be reversed because cycling is now far too dangerous as the velomaniacs are out of control.

Helped by heavy discounting and a glut of vans. This along with the enforced retirement on non ULEZ compliant smoke generators has prompted the switch to electric vans. This has already happened so nothing that Sir Dreer can claim credit for.

Bloody sanctimonious white van drivers buying electric vans and cycling and walking more too:https://www.gbnews.com/lifestyle/cars/electric-cars-britain-white-van-man-ditch-petrol-diesel?s=09"White van men across the UK are increasingly switching to zero emission vehicles because of environmental credentials and cost-saving measures.""New research has found that the most commonly cited reason for a white van man wanting to switch away from petrol and diesel vehicles is because they want to be more environmentally conscious."White van men across the UK are increasingly switching to zero emission vehicles because of environmental credentials and cost-saving measures."Over a third are more likely to cycle more often than car drivers (12 per cent), while 76 per cent of van drivers choose to walk, while just 64 per cent of car drivers would prefer to walk.""Whether it’s adopting eco-friendly driving habits, ditching single-use plastics or choosing an all-electric van, it’s clear that sustainability is at the forefront of van drivers’ choices."

The language of Labour politicians since the election win has been very interesting. There is a lot of stress on the health benefits of cycling. This seems like a shift away from the rather sanctimonious position that riding a bike was something that you were morally obligated to do in order to save the planet. Very few people were buying that.An argument for cycling based on the health benefits is much more powerful and it looks from the outside that the much touted reforms of the NHS could see cycling playing a big part in a programme of preventative health measures. If support for taking up cycling is going to replace the handing out of expensive drugs, that may end up being cheaper and more effective as well as reversing the worrying trend of decline in cycling across the country.

Good news

Simon Lightwood is the Minister for Transport with, among other things, the Active Travel brief. He gave a speech at the All Parliamentary Party Group for Cycling and Walking this week where he was passionate and enthusiastic about the benefits of cycling to society and health in particular.Ruth Cadbury was there of course. With Ruth, Lou Haigh and Simon in position things are looking rather promising for Active Travel.

It was so good David it needed saying twice.

Note to self, the ruddy spell check button is there for a reason 😉
N V Brooks ● 164d
That's probably the one thing we both agree on.
Apologies for double submission.
It's par for the course Robert, apart from not being able to spell this individual, has proved to have the social skills of a dung beetle.
You can't count! 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2024 - I make that four times. Even if David Burke's counting were amiss, that's no reason to call him a liar

"get it yourself" = there isn't any but my lips are moving so I might as well post more rubbish.
Do givemy regards to teve if you speak to him. He was always evident in reigning in the excesses of the CLP either overtly or 'with a quiet word'. He and Maggie were, and still are, wonderful community representatives and his presence at many community events is sadly missed. Let us see if Costigan is as active in support of comminity initiatives.
Readers of this forum will have their own views on whether I am a moron or if Mr Taylor doesn't understand what the Transport Select Committee is. (I suppose both could be true). He may actually be right that her influence would be limited but that would only be the case if she had to recuse herself from discussions which were deemed to directly affect her constituency. If not I think she can be expected to get the issue onto the committee's agenda fairly quickly.

“has been elected four times.“That’s another lie from Berk.

𝅘𝅥𝅮 𝅘𝅥𝅘𝅥𝅘𝅥...don't bother they're here.stop freeloading...get the evidence yourself.Laziness is odious. A good drive from Barnes to the A4 will exorcise you 😂

"Evidence of gracious works " Blimey She's an MP not Hyacinth Bucket and has been elected four times. I must ask Steve Pound if he carried out any gracious works in his time in Parliament.
Of course there’s no evidence. It’s just a non person - a Troll - one of Campbean’s imaginary friends. It only exists because Campbean isn’t getting response to his vitriol. Don’t feed the Trolls
So, no evidence then?As I suspected, just a noisy emtpy vessel.Like we need any more of those.
Of course only a moron would think that Ruth will have any influence on the opening of Hammersmith Bridge to traffic. It will be great when it’s open again because it’s really fantastic to drive from from Barnes to the A4 or indeed to Kensington and central London
well, that's certainly a lesser display of silliness.Keep practicing 🤣
I look forward to ANY evidence that her 'gracious works' have made a positive improvement to the part of LBH that she represents.
🤣..freeloader.Looking forward to more of her gracious works.Thank you Ruth Cadbury
Indeed, as will be the blinkered and ill- informed.
The poor you will always have with you
Don't you just love it when some poorly informed idiot makes a contribution?
"Cadbury serves more than those odd, mouthy, ill-mannered slobs that write poorly informed comments here."Been looking in a mirror, Roland ? Or do you just enjoy slagging off your neighbours ?

Fantastic news!Ruth Cadbury has shown & proven to be a hard working and dedicated servant to the public.Cadbury serves more than those odd, mouthy, ill-mannered slobs that write poorly informed comments here. Cadbury serves our whole community, just fact-check it !That said I hope she keeps Hammersmith Bridge SHUT.its so much nicer as a footpath 😂
Opening Hammersmith Bridge to motorists must be prioritised.
And Kew Bridge station. And the Piccadilly line signalling upgrade.
Julian, Farage has split the voting, some will now be voting Reform, how do you suggest they be voted out.
Janice Evans ● 164d
... and not forgetting passenger lift requirements at Gunnersbury and Turnham Green Stations!
Jim Lawes ● 164d
This is excellent news. It will make a big difference that such a strong supporter of the reopening of Hammersmith Bridge has got this key appointment.
And Andy Slaughter has been elected Chair of the Justice Committee.Which is also nice.Good to see local MPs taking these important positions of influence.
What you got to do is vote out labour Cllrs at the next local elections to send a strong message otherwise you have 5 years to wait.

Don’t feed the Troll. Have no idea what it said because I don’t read its posts because it usually just spews vitriol.
Steve Taylor ● 165d
Well, I suppose the callous woman wants to get pensioners walking and cycling more given she acted like a party sheep and voted to remove the winter fuel payment from virtually all pensioners. A disgrace but expected.
