Resident Parking Permit Changes

Could a local councillor please respond to this,as other residents may be unaware.I have asked a few goodly neighbours but they too are unaware of any changes.Indeed, the parking attendant I spoke to today knew nothing.I might have missed a previous thread that mentioned something ?.My residents parking permit expires 31 July.I renewed on the 9th July, as the permit didn't arrive I emailed Permit office Friday last.They responded saying it was going 'virtual', and no permit would be sent out, I assume like the Road Tax ?.The Parking attendant I spoke to knew nothing of these changes, and kept saying I will get my permit in the post ?.I asked him how are you going to check all the vehicles down each street, as he typed in my vehicle reg, but he could only see I was covered until next week ?.So my questions are.Is the system changing ?.When did this change ?.Will the parking attendants be issued with a special vehicle reg scanning machine, as the attendant I spoke to, had type my registration number in to his machine.Kind regards Patrick.

We had virtual permits where we lived before and this is exactly what was supposed to happen, though it is unlikely that the CEO's would remember effectively partly because people park in different streets in Chiswick and partly because of the sheer volume of residents' vehicles.Our street patrols took much longer with the new scheme so less streets were properly patrolled.  One problem that arose was that residents who had previously had a dated permit on the windscreen did not remember when their permits were expiring.  Our old LA said they had emailed residents to let them know but this was not the case for many of us.

Patrick - Just in case you wanted to amend your name so as to do without the capitals, all you have to do is click on your name in blue on the bottom left of the screen and then change it in the box that comes up. Entirely up to you, but that would give Humpty Campbell one less thing to moan about.

Update from LBHDear Patrick,Thank you for your email.all 12 month permits come with a 14 day grace period when they expire as long as the current permit is correctly displayed so you do not need to remove the expired permit. The council have decided to postpone going live with the digital permits for the time being however the enforcement officers can put any vehicle registration in their device and see the active permits.Oh, Paul Campbell, I am so glad that you can sign in normally as Paul Campbell.And me PATRICK MULHALL has to sign in with me caps on, it's the biggest worry in my life, it was those pesky Leprechauns. Michael,I see cars regularly ticketed in my street. I once forgot to renew my parking permit and it wasn't for about 10 days after I could have got a ticket that I got one. Plenty of other cars had had tickets in the meanwhile.If you regularly put in the same registration plate into your device I'm sure you'd pretty soon pick up some cars that always seem to be there.

Hi Patrick - What's likely to happen is that the same CEOs will do the same streets, and start to recognise which cars are usually parked there, and the chancers will stick out like a sore thumb.

Re Parking Permit Changes.I spoke to another Parking attendant on Saturday, he knew about the Virtual Vehicle Permits, and advised me that they have to type in every vehicle reg, into there new 'machine'.It doesn't allow them to scan the vehicles so will take ages to do each street !.As I said in a previous post surely this will encourage chancers to park as and when they like.

Where did you get that from? Somewhere on the Internet no doubt. How do you know what you've suggested about ULEZ applying to ALL vehicles is true? And there is no charge for owning a vehicle in London.

What righty media? A Jones. The reason I don't have TV, Radio, read papers, apart from the internet that I have as O have a choice what I choose to watch/look at etc... So righty media  may be your imagination as i'm not aware of any terrestrial wise. The usual mainstream suspects sky news, bbc, itv, channel4, news etc and most print media is all left-wing - those who watch and adhere to them are easily manipulated into the "status quo" spread your wings and stop watching the bs.

It seems there is a lot of confusion about this.  I have applied for two temporary permits for my decorator recently.  In June a paper permit arrived promptly.  When I applied in early July I received an email, as before, confirming a permit would be posted to me.  Nothing arrived.  On questioning this I was then told that permits are now virtual and nothing would be posted.We have put a copy of the relevant email on the dashboard and are keeping our fingers crossed!  All very stressful. I saw nothing about the change anywhere on the LBH website, the emails I received in connection with it were inconsistent, and it seems the councillors are also unaware and are still being given contradictory information.The usual shambles at LBH. Its the same with the "consultation" on changes to the borough's parking "strategy".  The article on ChiswickW4 says they were "disappointed" to receive less than 300 responses.  Unsurprising to me as I'm sure, like me, many people knew nothing about the consultation.  I spoke to my local councillor about this.  Apparently there was something about it on the LBH website...are we now all supposed to read this on a regular basis?

Yes, Hounslow council is still issuing physical permits. I'll try to find out about a move to digital. I thought I had read about it but my searches so far haven't found anything current.

So are Hounslow still issuing physical permits? Patrick's post suggested that his replacement permit was a 'virtual' permit. It strikes me as odd that some permits would be virtual, while other people continues to receive physical permits.Do you happen to know Joanna?

Taking up another case of a permit that hasn't arrived, the parking permits team at Hounslow council has told me:"You can park by displaying the permit reference number on the dashboard while you wait for the permit in the post."

For those of us W4 residents who are in LBEaling (which has for a couple of years adopted the VVP) I think you might have a point. They will scan in every number, if there are enough enforcement officers ,but I haven't  seen one on my road for a while and it's getting increasingly sifficult to park.

I'd assume they'd have a device with number plate recognition built in. Just need to walk along the street pointing it all the parked cars, much quicker than peering at everyone's windscreen to check the details.

An observation of this 'Virtual Parking Permit'.When everyone has gone virtual, and no car in Chiswick has a valid displayed parking permit on it, will it encourage 'chancers' more cars, from outside W4 to park as and where they want.Because it's going to take the poor Parking Attendant ages to type in every vehicle reg in each street he/she has to patrol ?.Think about it ?.

Same issue here PatrickThis either feels like a major change with zero comms or usual inefficiency and laziness at Hounslow Council.Either way not cool and sure others are in the same position.Sorry to hear of your loved one - you have much better and more productive  things to be doing than following up on  this nonsense.Keir's very valid comments on service need folloowed through at Hounslow.

Dear Patrick,If you would like help from a councillor, to check whether you need a physical permit or if you have been added to the database as a holder of a virtual permit, do get in touch with me unless you know which ward you live in and who your councillors are in which case do get in touch with one of them. Or, if you give me your address, I can reply giving you the email addresses and phone numbers of your ward councillors. I do understand how stressful the uncertainty is, with the risk of fines then, if you are fined, all the admin involved in challenging a PCN. Let's try to pre-empt that by asking if you are on the system. So sorry to hear your loved one has dementia and how much you have to be available. Yes thank you Andrew,I renewed, made payment on the 9th July and received online receipt.I don't want to get any tickets even though I am in the right.I am dealing with enough with a loved one with dementia 24/7.

Patrick, presumably you have paid to renew your parking permit beyond July 31st?If so, then why not email the parking people at Hounslow, copying yourself into the email, telling them that you have renewed and have evidence of paying for the permit, and ask them to confirm that you have a valid permit after July 31st.If you don't get a reply within a decent timeframe, ask your councillors to take it up with Hounslow.
