Bedford Park recycling spill clean up

I've only just seen the story about the recycling lorry on The Avenue earlier this morning having walked past the spot about noon and not noticing anything amiss. A big cheer for the binmen for their quick thinking, the clean up team for a job efficiently done and the firefighters for keeping us safe. A huge jeer for the idiot who put a lithium battery into the recycling (if that was the cause). It is frightening to think he is our neighbour.

Although a lithium battery is the most likely cause, regular batteries can cause fires in waste particularly if they are put through a compactor. All the supermarkets in Chiswick and Poundland collect them for recycling.
