Yes parents often do that after a respectable time has passed.

They may be setting up a fund in his name which parents sometimes do tohelp others going through similar.

“ for grief being a private and personal matter? I dont't go along with 'bleeding in public' in what should be a family matter.”That is so true. It’s a very personal family matter and time for private grief and mourning. Surprised that the family has the energy to think about money and organise crowd funding and, even though a very substantial sum has already raised, to allegedly call for more donations.
This tragic case, uncannily coming on top of Michael Mosely's misadventure abroad, begs the question:Will our police ever call a halt in their search in the Algarve for an answer to the disappearance of little Madeleine McCann from her hotel bedroom, missing since May 2007?

Whatever.

If some people are kind and want to help that is up to them.

Normal famililial reactions then.I don't really see how it is any one else's concern.
The family may have wanted to be there, I don't know the details but having a Niece that died and recently a Nephew it is devastating for the mother.
Raising funds for what?
it was no longer a private matter when the search began, someone musthave suggested raising the funds,
Whatever happened to parents being responsible for their own children and their actions and repercussions? And for grief being a private and personal matter? I dont't go along with 'bleeding in public' in what should be a family matter.
It was given to the family, there are often funds given when someone losesa child.
Having been involved in a repatriation and burial, it is expensive, but nothing like £80.000/ The fund should be closed and a clear indication given of what will happen to the funds raised. No one is critical of Mrs. Slater, these thing develop alife of their own but can garner lots of adverse publicity if left unchecked.

The Tenerife authorities specifically declined assistance from the UK for the search. They were confident they had the resources to handle it.

Exactly, it may have been to raise funds for the search originally, itsobviously involved costs as it happened abroad.
Perhaps people should reflect that, no matter what we think of someone's behaviour, it isn't a great look to be harshly critical of them a couple of days after they learnt their child is dead.

To pay for the funeral, apparently. What are they after? A state funeral? People who donate to something like this need their bumps felt.

Follow the money.

Well put Keith

Seems grief is moving from the private to the public and is open for sponsorship.
Keith Iddon ● 218d
No.Tragic but why is there always a fundraiser nowadays?
