Hound pub on CHR

Opening on Wednesday 17 July. "A menu inspired by British pub classics. These include grilled red prawns with chilli and garlic gremolata and focaccia; and Highland Wagyu hound dog with Ogleshield Cheese, sauerkraut and charcuterie sauce. The beer list features established breweries such as Sambrook’s and Harbour Brewing Co, while the cocktails will be made with fresh ingredients sourced daily from the local fruit and vegetable market and the wine list will include the pub’s own label tap wines, created in collaboration with Uncharted Wines."

They have very ambitious opening hours - seven days a week including lunchtime.  I’m really looking forward to visiting The Hound and I wish them luck.  As for the black pudding scotch eggs, they are what I’ve already decided to order!

RB not sure if your barbs were aimed at me but I had not read anywhere about the retractable roof, although I now see that it has been mentioned in today's ES article.  Why the need for pavement tables then?

Thank you for another astute observation F.Caborn.I went in last week and D.Marles, you got a hole-in-one !  They have a splendid retractable roof over the whole of the rear courtyard.  Like Wimbledon, very smart.As ever, the emptiest vessels make the most noise !Accordingly, street-dweller & grumpy-guts, do please try get your facts straight, or you maybe mistaken.

Not sure if the pavement tables are still there but they may not have been needed anyway if the courtyard had not been covered over.  Perhaps the management should take a leaf out of Wimbledon's book and fit a retractable roof.

Worth checking, via local Councillors, if they are paying the requisite fee (IIRC a min. of £500) to 'rent' the pavement space.  There are also clearly defined minimum space requirements between such table and other users/the pavment edge.

Not sure they will win friends on Chiswick High Road.  Walked passed several times this week to find they had filled half the pavement with tables and chairs ( singles with 2 chairs and doubles with 4 chairs.  It was a busy time in the early afternoon and pedestrians were not happy with this land grab.  There were customers at the time but what usually happens is groups, say with prams and buggies group together and push out further.Not sure this is permitted but it made shopping at the fruit and veg stall difficult.

I think that is exactly the right way to look at it Roland.On the 13.5% service charge, I noticed that after a recent meal at one of the Soho House restaurants. It looks like a way to keep menu prices down but cover rising costs.

Lucky Chiswick !  This fantastic restaurant & hospitality group, investing in Chiswick, is a huge bonus to the area.They already have a 2 Michelin star restaurant in their group(https://guide.michelin.com/gb/en/greater-london/london/restaurant/gymkhana)The good people of Chiswick and probably our many, many visitors, will keep this establishment busy.Its nice to have an occasional treat, looking forward to being spoiled  : )

The colour of the front puts be off before ive got myself into the joint @ £34 and a 13.5 % service charge. I can certainly say i will be trying it once and just the once for that expected wow factor.

A quality restaurant no doubt, but....£34 for roast beef on a Sunday, just feels too much.Also , 13.5 % service (interesting amount!)

I have high hopes for the food but it will be expensive. The name I agree is a bit uninspired.

Hopefully, the food will be more interesting than the pub's new name. It took a creative no-no to think that one up.Still, not long ago some genius was going to call it The Chiswick Harlot, and years ago it was known as The C*** & Truncheon.
