The recent boundary changes have restored the size of the electorate in each constituency to the Electoral Commission’s target of between 69,000 and 77,000. In Central Ealing & Acton constituency the number of registered voters is around 75,000. I was quite surprised to see a tweet from Ealing Council at the beginning of last week boasting that they had successfully mailed out 66,000 postal voting forms. This seems like an extraordinarily high number and, if replicated across the country, it’s no wonder Royal Mail has been overwhelmed. Is voting in person at a polling station dying out? If so, how might that affect the reliability of exit polls?
