No mention of Chiswick in Labour Manifesto!

If Rishi Sunak snubbing D-Day veterans wasn't bad enough, now Keir Starmer has gone one step further by not specifically addressing the concerns of W4 residents in his party manifesto.Those hoping for a mention of the Piccadilly Line upgrade or the repair of Hammersmith Bridge will also have had their hopes dashed. However, it does set out what appears to be an undogmatic approach to transport policy and stresses both the importance of infrastructure and a willingness to devolve more power to city Mayors. TfL recently reported an operating surplus which you would think would raise its borrowing ceiling so, if Labour is serious about devolution, Sadiq Khan will have money to spend.

The Chiswick Onesies wrote impassioned letters to both Boris and Keir begging them to stop Cycleway 9, the priority bus and cycling route through Fishers Lane and the South Chiswick LN. The letters were hysterical in every sense of the word. Nobody does misplaced victimhood and self-importance than a rather strange cohort of Chiswickians.

That's probably right. However, devolving power to city Mayors might mean that the government isn't micromanaging London's transport infrastructure any more and allow Sadiq Khan to push ahead with the Piccadilly Line scheme using TfL's own resources.

Steve,I was being facetiuos.London already has the best and the cheapest public transport system in Britain and it would be perverse for any government to put improving it before a plethora of other places across the country.You don't know how lucky you are if you think otherwise.

"Chiswick is a deprived area as regards transport."No point wasting money on Chiswick because it's been levelled down by the Council by carving it up with unused cycle lanes and LTNs. It's what the people wanted (apparently) when they voted in Labour.

Yes,all things considered Chiswick is a deprived area as regards transport.Maybe more money could be cut from the already decimated levelling up budget to provide the folks of Chiswick exactly what they want,after all transport links outside London are far less imporant.
