LTN Parliamentary debate

It's rather looking as if this debate has been bumped owing to rather more pressing subjects occupying the House today.

“More pressing subjects”Surely there must be some mistake as LTNs are well known to be the primary cause of climate change, pollution, businesses failing, loss of livelihoods, delays to A&E admissions and social injustice in the UK. Also they make some people’s private car journeys a bit more inconvenient.

I imagine it was just like every LTN debate: opponents make up lots of imaginary reasons why they signal the apocalypse and are not popular with the the public and supporters explain with facts why they don't and are.

They are harming our economy, they are harming our capital city, they are punishing people just for trying to get around in a bus, or a car, or a taxi. I think it's time to halt the introduction of new LTNs. It's time for the government - and the minister - to intervene to start removing existing LTNs. Well, broadly they were anti, albeit unlike here the debate wasn't entirely polarised. Help yourself. v. quick scan because that is too boring even for me - I stand by my comment about right wingers and add that they are so far gone they will only ever give the oppo a thrown-in at the corner flag. Also looks like Chiswickians who want to suport the Labour view on this will support replacing the numerous old bollarded LTN schemes with ANPR to ensure access for disabled people. Supporters of the Beverely Road, Chiswick Common Road and Thornton Avenue LTN scheme (to name just a a few) are apparently anti-disabled and also anti-motorist because of all the fines that will inevitable be issued to innatentive drivers.

Depends on your point of view and is (largely) irrelevant I think.Actions speak louder than words.In one year’s time, will any of the existing LTNs have been removed (spoiler some probably will) and will there be more LTNs then there are now?

Ruth Cadbury must really be regretting supporting LTNs and traffic chaos now that the General Election has been called. She seems out of touch with the reality of the situation and the traffic chaos caused for the overwhelming majority of her constituents.

And now one of the most vocal opponents of the cycle lane and LTNs is lobbying for a LTN on her road and announcing it on the OneChiswick FB page of all places. I am very happy to lend my support for a LTN between Dukes Avenue, Sutton Court Road and the A4.

She wanted to prove to the Council how LTNs have made her road into a rat run and should be removed but of course the Council as usual keeps its fingers firmly stuffed in ears.

Oh really? That is actually funnier. Good luck proving that LTNs have made Wavendon Avenue a rat run. I'm full of anticipation for the logic on that one.
