Frank Field

Frank Field died yesterday, aged 81. He had strong connections with Chiswick: his mother was a welfare worker at Belmont School, and he served on Hounslow Council as a Labour councillor for Turnham Green before eventually becoming MP for Birkenhead. He was a good and gentle man who always spoke a great deal of good sense, which didn't always coincide with the party line. RIP Mr. Field.

I believe that Lord Field passed away in a London Nursing Home / Hospice.His funeral might be held in Merseysideor in London ... due to his Westminster and Chiswick connections.Does anyone have information?

A lovely man with whom I had the pleasure of meeting at least once a month when he served as the Chairman of the Cathdrals' Fabric Commissionfor England (CFCE) it made great strides under his, non nonsense, leadership.Sincere condolences to his family.

I've just remembered that Lord Frank Field (RIP) was once a pupil at Hogarth School in the 1950s.I have his form photograph on Flickr somewhere ... not easy to retrieve these days or to post on these Forums.Latterly he may have been staying at a London Nursing home / hospice.He certainly had Chiswick connections.

Dont or cant remember much about but when i did hear him speak in the commons the word i would use in the way he come accross and presented himself is humble

I too am saddened to hear of Frank Field's passing today ... not unexpected as I had read some time back that he had entered a Hospice.I don't recall his being a local Councillor ... but knew of his Chiswick connections. He once lived in a flat above Fosters Bookshop. He also once lived in Dukes Avenue.In later years he jointly set up the Low Pay Unit with my old boss David Layton MBE.Agreed... he was much admired.RIP Lord Frank Field.

A thoroughly decent and principled man.  A shame he didn’t get the recognition he deserved.  We could do with more like him in our increasingly troubled country.

Indeed. Compared to some of those in the House of Commons he stood out as an example of what an MP could and should be. A sad loss.
