Caution when using ringo and paybyphone apps

From 'nextdoor':  Beware of using ringo and paybyphone apps... I paid for parking using one of the apps and forgot about it.. I then realised 3 months later that I was being debited £59.99 from a company called Majormusclescom.I contacted my bank for reimbursement and on research found that this is a very common scam... please look out for this in your bank accounts and be aware.See link attached:https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/major-muscles.com

So is it the case here that scammers are placing stickers with inaccurate information on machines? If that is the case it is probably worth stressing that there is no problem with the parking apps themselves and it might be a good idea to download them even if you have no immediate need so you can be sure you have the legitimate one.

Happened to me last week I am afraid and I am normally very careful. Not with the QR code but when I looked to download the app. Was distracted by my mother chatting to me. Bank being very helpful.

When parking ,and trying to pay first time with a new app, I believe they cover up the proper QR code displayed on the machine with their own sticker....and bang the fraud kicks in.Obviously if you have the correct app downloaded already it's not a problem.

This seems very unlikely to me. I've used those apps for years with no issues. It could be that scammers have registered a similar domain name and people have put the details in incorrectly. Unless reliable information is presented to the contrary I would stick with the apps which offer extra layers of security.
