Plane noise on Park road

Looking to buy a house on Park Road (just returned from a viewing). However, have heard from friends that it can be noisy because of the airplanes that fly above that part of Chiswick. We are quite sensitive to noise so wanted to ask for direct experiences of people who live in that area. The main bedroom will be on the third floor (loft conversion). To those who live nearby - does the noise wake you in the mornings? Will it wake up a baby sleeping in the garden (we are expecting a newborn)?

Zero traffic where I live, no busses, definitely need transport; supermarkets 11 miles away - four miles away are a couple of smaller shops, co-op & costcutters. Great modern medical centre that's four miles away. Local free range egg farm; great walks etc... property wise, prices that'll make your eyes water. Just shows the rip off prices you're paying in London. Great if your work is work from home scenario."As helpful replies go, that probably just about takes thebiscuit. But the why stop there ?Maybe the OP should consider moving abroad ? If he had plastic surgery he even could adopt a new identity, leave his wife and start up a new life for himself, running a bar in Spain. We live on the South end of Park Road, and yes you do hear the planes. When we moved  from North Chiswick we were worried that the planes would be an issue but we have got used to it. It is quieter than right by the river. The road is lovely and the location is great - good train line, fantastic park on your doorstep and the river close by.

Last year's statistics for Westerly operations were the norm (70%), with April, May & June usage below 50%, although July & August were around 90%.

In the summer months you tend to get more easterly operations  which in the summer months countsfor much of the 30% in easterly operations. So you get more NO PLANES while relaxing in the garden

triple glazing (double plus secondary) helps quite a bit with the noiseand I know there is a special glass called hush glass that presumably helps even morebut during a heatwave, you might want to leave your window open, at which point all that glazing doesn't help, obviouslyrelatedly, 2nd floor rooms (i.e., american 3rd floor, i.e. loft rooms) definitely need air-con during heat waves like the two we saw in 2022

It might be worth mentioning that although alternation of runways takes place with the switch between northern and southern runways at 3pm, BOTH runways are routinely used for landing in the hour between 6 am and 7 am.There is also the possibility of further changes to flight paths, both from the (decreasing) possibility of a third runway at Heathrow and also from the plans for airspace modernisation (to be implemented at Heathrow ~2030). While most landings will have to be aligned with the runways, some might take place with more curved approaches affecting new areas. And easterly departures may be on new  which may possibly be more straight-out than the current arrangements.

Yes Park Road residents definitely don’t benefit from the removal of over 13,000 rat runners every day from their area…… not at all. Ha ha!

The noise impact will depend on where in Park Road your house is.  At the southern end of Park Road by Chiswick Station, you would be about 400 metres north of the flight path for planes landing on the northern runway (27R).  At the northern end of Park Road, by the A4, you would be about 1100 metres north of the flight path.Those distances were measured from flightradar24.com

Sensitivity to plane noise is an individual thing and I don't have a huge problem with it although there are occasions when I am awakened by it (I think this is when early morning flights are in a holding pattern or coming in on an unusual flight path). You'll probably find your baby is awoken more by foxes than planes.Just to correct a misleading claim about traffic on the road. This was not reduced by the closure on Staveley Road. Staveley Road itself has seen a massive reduction in traffic and this is an even more pleasant road to own a house on but Park Road has seen some displacement according to people who live there. If you are on the south side of Staveley this now sees some through traffic when there was none before and on the north side of Staveley there is an increased flow of traffic coming off the A4. However, I would stress these increases are not significant enough to spoil what is very lovely road in a very lovely area.

The runway changeover weekly and 3pm makes a very useful change in noise as does sleeping on 2nd floor. Sleeping on 3rd floor is far too noisy for me in weeks when planes land on north runway. Last year we had approx 6 weeks of no westerly winds so we were free of noise day and night.

It’s a great road. Even better since the filter was installed on Staveley Road preventing 5500 rat running drivers per day using it to save a minute on their drive to the A4. Plane noise is a thing for sure but something you quickly get used to and nowhere near as bad as living in a more expensive house in Richmond where the planes are much lower.

If you specifically set out to listen, then you may hear it in the mornings.But really it's not bad at all. Certainly not enough to wake a baby. At least imho...

Sensitive to noise? Then would probably say don't move on to a flight path, it will be noisy at some point.
