Yet again

I went to the post office this morning- I just needed an answer to a question- one person serving customers- poor thing, dealing with loads of people waiting to be served .  I had to wait 35!minutes to be served .  I then went to Boots - again only one person serving us.What on earth is going on? Nightmare ! Do they want our business or not ?

Brassed off as described with the cash machine outside Barclays in Hammersmith only giving 2 x £50 notes from the limited options on offer, I went into the bank and queued up to get them changed for something more practical. ‘But we don’t handle cash!’ There followed a minor scene questioning the purpose and meaning of a bank and how they proposed I should give a monetary gift to three grandchildren.

Exactly and it is getting more difficult.  Some changes are easier to make than others with more reliable alternatives than others.This week and next are also Easter school holidays and there may be fewer staff available.

And it's only a few weeks since a lot of these self service tills weren't working - Nationwide, Sainsbury's, Greggs and more...  It's necessary to have some cash.

"I rarely use cash these days but when you actually need to get some it really shouldn't be that hard!". I believe the reason for this is that, if everybody used cash for their transactions, then the powers that be would have little or no control over how and what people did with that money, and we can't possibly have that situation can we?

It is quicker but a lot of people still refuse to give bank details just don't trust the system I suppose, I wouldn't know how to do it also found it impossibleto get home insurance online, needed to ask a question but no phone numbers given.

The ATM near us was brilliant and even had £5 notes! It's just changed and now only throws out £20s and very occasionally £10s, absolute pain in the a*se. Managed to change the £20s in a Post Office, and as we don't have one near us that required a car journey. The man in there told us some ATMs spit out £50 notes now, and that really brasses people off. I can imagine it would. What with that and ASDA still not having sorted out their kiosk tills properly after a week, you have to be a hardy soul to go in a shop or use real money these days!

It's very easy to renew a passport using a smart phone including taking your own photo with a little help from a family member or friend.I did mine and I received my new passport very quickly after.

I had to get cash for our cleaner from an ATM on Chis High Road last week. All banks now gone, WH Smith, Nationwide and M&S ATM had no cash, Metro Bank ATMs are by entry code only, ended up having to go all the way to the small Sainsburys near Chiswick Cinema.I rarely use cash these days but when you actually need to get some it really shouldn't be that hard!

I've seen parcels being returned at a local Tesco.  I think they were Evri delivered ones so there must be arrangements.

Helen, you misunderstand me.I am not advocating going on    line for everything,in fact just the opposite.I very rarely buy anything on line,last time was 9 months ago when the item I wanted was not available anywhere else.It's what the companies and banks etc. want you to do and will soon pre providing as little alternative as possible.

If you have a prepaid return then you can request a Royal Mail/ courier collection which, from experience, works very well.

It’s called reducing staff costs but it also may be down to holidays poorly managed given the 4 day week 😂😂😂

Well Keith most of the people were bringing back parcels which were probably returned from deliveries ! How are they able to do this online -If there is a way - please let me know. Not trying to be funny - would just like to know ???

So the five women that decided to hold an AGM behind the prescription counter whilst I stood there waiting, completely ignoring me, had that on their mind.If so, they haven't really thought it through.
