Ceramic Hobs!

This is a very Chiswick question…. Has anyone replaced their gas hob with a plug in ceramic one? Apparently if you get one with a 13 amp plug it restricts the power so you can’t have the burners on at the same time. That makes sense but surely it’s very restrictive? The alternative is to hard wire so there’s  no restriction (like the oven) but we don’t want one bad enough to go through that much expense and upheaval. Has anyone done it?

We find an induction hob much easier to clean than a ceramic hob as the glass itself does not get so hot. We just use some kitchen roll and glass cleaner.

PS.  I do have a small induction hob plate which I dig out for the big occasions, eg Christmas.  It was/is inexpensive and plugs into the normal mains sockets.  When not needed I return it to its box and put it back into the cupboard.

A couple of years ago we replaced an entire kitchen and fitted a ceramic hob, gas not an option.  We have gas in London and of the two gas is to be preferred.The ceramic hob is a devil to clean requiring a special blade scraper and expensive cream cleaner (not the Cif type).  It takes ages to do to return it to pristine shine despite wiping over with a soft damp cloth after each use.  Ceramic surfaces also scratch easily so never drag a pot/pan over the surface.  You must always lift and put down and extra care when using Le Creuset pans.

The maximum load that a 13 amp plug in hobwillsupportis c.3000 watts, barely more than one large ring on, as example, a Zanussi hob. Gas is faster to heat and far easier to control.If you don't have gas then induction is the way ahead but again they reallyneed hard wiring back to the consumer unit and their own dedicated RCD/fuse.
