Ealing Council Tax Band Change

I have just received my council tax bill and, once I partially recovered from the shock of the total bill, noticed that we have been moved from band  E to band F. We have lived in the property for 6 years have made no structural changes to the property nor have we received any advanced notice from the council or the valuation office. Any advice for getting the council to revert us to band E?

Well, with computers who knows what can happen!  I remember having an argument in the office over a Christmas Card List as I knew that someone's address was very incorrect.  It was on Excel and some alteration had been made separating the names from the addresses!

I thought that a change of ownership shouldn't make any difference. If you were to develop the property, than that could result in the band changing. Happy to be corrected.

I was contacted by a resident who had a similar situation to CJ. On checking the Council Tax Valuation website there was a disparity between their banding and that of Ealing Council. After some push back from Ealing, and escalating the issue, it would seem a genuine mistake had been made. The bands were reconciled and the resident did receive a refund. Took some time but was resolved.

I thought that banding could be changed on change of ownership.

I have precisely the same problem with LBH, Helen. I live in a block of flats and am assessed as being in Band E, despite the fact that several flats of identical size and layout, including the ones on the floors immediately below me are Band D. One gets the impression that the original assessments were done by sticking a pin at random locations on a map of the block.

Yes.  I am going to contact them but will be surprised if I get an answer in under 6 months.  Perhaps its all part of their dodgy IT system.

Interesting- I always thought I was band E - now they are saying I am band f … I live in a small flat and can’t believe this is correct. This is Hounslow-

I would not have thought they are allowed to do that unless you have requested a re-banding and it's gone the wrong way!Have you checked the original banding?

You need to contact the Valuation Office to request,at first, an explanation. There is a documented appeal process
