Sandersons returns

What a fantastic bit of news it is that Sandersons are coming back to Chiswick. It is great to see a company with a sense of history and the move builds on the fantastic work that has been done to renovate Voysey House. Reading about it has solved what has always been a mystery to me - why there is a Bleak House Lane in Chiswick.

Well done Nigel. Thanks for that.I read that Sandersons started up in Chiswick in 1860!I recall playing football for the Old Meadonians at a Sanderson's Sports Ground near Uxbridge. Low and behold they had a factory near there too.

It does indeed, it was their London showroom. I remember it as a child as my father had a lot of customers on and around Berners Street.

I believe that "Bleak House" was the name of the Sanderson's Social Club on the other side of Chiswick High Road.Possibly sited partly above the old Woolworths where there had been a Billiards Club.

Yes, it would be.  Meanwhile the William Morris Society Museum according to its website is open again.

The Morris & Co archive appears to be part of this project and the suggestion is that is to be put on display which would be a marvellous addition to the centre of Chiswick.

I remember being taken on a trip from school to the Sanderson's factory in Perivale where the hand blocked wallpapers were made alongside the more 'run of the mill' wallcoverings.

Yes, great news.  And I didn’t know about the Bleak House Lane origin either.  Nor the Grand Meaulnes connection.  I wish Sanderson’s all the best!
