No, Woking tried to play property developer. Hounslow simply roll over every time a developer comes anywhere near them ready to be either ******** or have their tummy tickled.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have heard yet about the council.  How about cleaning up the streets and promoting a bit more civic pride before opening up to developers.  I believe this kind of attitude contributed to Woking Council’s demise.

Coincidentally : MINIM was previously owned by Blenheim Exhibitions which had its offices at 630 Chiswick High Road in the 1990's

When the Ealing delegation used to attend their trips cost the taxpayer nothing, since the tens of thousands of pounds of expenses were covered by the developers. Needless to say such largesse was repaid in kind with some very relaxed attitudes towards certain planning applications, as well as a failure to produce the legally required Local Authority Monitoring reports that supposedly tracked the council’s progress building new homes. The absence of these reports enabled developers to successfully appeal against planning refusals (and claim their costs from the council!)Two enthusiastic attendees to MIPIM from Ealing were Peter Mason and Tony Clement, no Council leader and Chief Executive respectively.

It's MIPIM time again! Time for us to give our annual heartfelt thanks to the selfless leaders of our sainted council as they reluctantly  trek off to the grim backwater of Cannes to face days of nose-to-the-grindstone discussion, foreign food and shabby B&B accommodation. Surely it's time they moved a resolution for next year's MIPIM to be held in Hounslow.

Good old MIPIM, where councillors go to be dazzled by developers and investors with lavish hospitality, endless booze, casinos, brown envelopes and prostitutes in return for light-touch planning decisions. See Private Eye in a few weeks for behind the scenes reporting.
