All of the Labour front bench are members of a group called Labour Friends of Israel an organisation that agrees with the ZIonist project of the present Israeli government. Starme is a good friend of te Israeli priminister Mark Regev and talks on the hone to him all the time according to his video interview in the Telegraph.  Lyndsey Hoyle has recentl returned from a trip to Israel where he met Netenyahu the Israeli president (it was all over UK papers but in back pages)  The conversation between Hoyle and Starmer has been said to be regarding what the Israeli government would like and not who would be a target for violence by any extremeist group.  The fact that Starmer put together a delaying amendment to the SNP motion which he knew would need to be taken prior to the motion would bare out what happened as it not only delayed it but killed it stone dead.  The end being no call for a Ceasefire from the UK government.  I want to know was this meting taped and if so where is it can we hear it? I would not trust what is being said directly by the leaderships of the Tories, Labour or anyone else with out that tape or a direct statement.

The main reason behind the unedifying walkouts last Wednesday was not so much Tory and SNP fury over the suspicion that Sir Keir had persuaded the Speaker to alter the SNP amendment to his advantage.Besides setting a precedent in ignoring established protocol the Speaker ruined his reputation for integrity.The more serious aspect of the whole debacle is if Islamic extremism or any other form of intimidation is to force MPs thinking, then we have lost our democracy, and anarchy resides.

Yes, it seems that this was all about something that broke 'convention', not actually any legally binding rule. So does that mean that as The Speaker you are in charge and presumably can decide to ignore said 'convention'? In which case what are all these MPs clutching their pearls and going into a faint for? Seems a lot of what governs Parliamentary procedure is arcane, past its sell by date and needs to be dragged into the 21st century.

When MPs decide to squabble with each other over arcane points of procedure, nothing else exists. Gaza, Ukraine, the British electorate, human rights, measured debate - all disappear into the background as these members of the privileged élite we call Parliament become obsessed with nothing but scoring points off each other. This solipsistic mindset is rarely so apparent as it was on Wednesday.

So you are the speaker of the House and Starmer comes to you and says he has grave concerns for the safety of his MPs. You know that two members of the house have been murdered in recent years making it a more dangerous occupation than being in the armed forces during that time. He explains that his MPs were targeted for abuse when they abstained the last time a similar motion to the house including local MP Ruth Cadbury. Pro-Palestinian groups are making no secret that they will be drawing up lists of MPs who don't support the SNP motion and will be protesting outside their homes. There is, as you speak, a large crowd gathered outside parliament.I'm sure you will tell me in this position that you would have stuck to parliamentary protocol and insisted that the SNP motion would have been put to the House but would you be willing to concede that part of Sir Lindsay's reasons for not doing so was concern for the safety of the people he works with every day?

Philippa, the speaker of the House must adhere to protocol and stick to the day's agreed schedule, just like a football referee's decisions must comply with the current rules, not his version of the rules.It was not in his remit to allow Labour and the Conservatives to sprout all day long on their nuanced versions on how best to cease the killings.That is why Sir Lindsay apologised profusely- it should have been the SNPs sole platform.

It is in the Speaker's remit to change the debate.  The problem was the MPs.  There could have been a proper debate of all the parties if Penny Mordaunt hadn't walked out with the Conservatives.

He didn't care about anyone's education; sending so many to Uni was just another means to draw in immigrants by creating shortfalls in real job markets. This is correct.The Home secretary asked that the Free Palestinian marches be banned on Armistice day due to respect for the war fallen.This request was appeased by the police and the protest marches went ahead: a decision the police will come to regret as the ongoing Israeli aggression against Hamas continues and the protests become more and more febrile.

Agree with Vanessa and Roger and I think to allow all that money to be spent on policing marches in London every single week is appalling, more squandering of our resources by Khan. I find the idea of changing the way this country including our parliament operates to placate extremists of any persuasion deeply worrying - what was he thinking?

The Speaker should go for allowing creepy Sir Keir his wish to hijack the SNP's amendment, thereby saving his anti-semitic team from revolting.Fundamentally I believe the Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle is a good man (unlike the awful John Bercow) and is worth forgiving him his huge mistake.

Not only that, Vanessa, but if they're really concerned about the state of hospitals and starving citizens they should first be taking a damn good look at what they've done to the health and social services in this country. And asking themselves how  they sit back and watch a useless money-grubbing turd like David Cameron, who bombed Libya and helped wreck that country,  telling other warmongers to bring out the pipes of peace.

Agree with Roger, I doubt people in Gaza, or Israel for that matter, either know nor care about this nonsense. MPs want to grow up, and bring the Parliamentary procedures into the 21st century.
