Disposing of laptops/DVD player

Hi. Any idea where I can dispose of old laptops/DVD player?  Many thanks

Nick is a lovely chap and a couple of local charities including the wonderfully titled "Eleemosynary Charity of William Hobbaye for the relief of poverty" send laptops donated to them to Nick for refurbishment and recycling.

There is a retired doctor in Ealing who wipes old laptops to military standards and then recycles them, loading a new operating system and apps before passing them on to those in need. You can contact Nick Robinson at ndprobinson@gmail.com

We've all given you replies about just getting rid of them but of course if they can be used or repaired that is a far better option.  Cllr Ron Muchiso was collecting laptops aroundabout pandemic time when there were so many children having to work from home - but many families still don't have these.  I don't know if or how many of these schemes are still working.

There are more and more options:https://www.recycleyourelectricals.org.uk/There is also info on data.Yesterday I was in B&Q Chiswick and there were very obvious recycling bins for small electrical equipment plus low energy lightbulbs and striplights and no doubt different batteries.

Second what Al said ... even if the laptop has stopped working there's a reasonable chance the hard disk would still work, and it's a fairly trivial task to remove it and see if there is any "interesting" data on it.

Curry’s welcome electrical goods for recycling. I took an old TV there this week and was surprised that as a ‘thank you’ they gave me a gift voucher for £5 to use on anything I buy there for over £25  within the next two months

I think you can put small electrical items out with the recycling in a plastic bag if you live in Hounslow.I'd be careful doing that with tha laptop though, as someone might take it and be able to get data off of the hard drive.  Open it up, take the hard drive out, and smash the hard drive with a hammer.  If you aren't sure how to open it up, and which bit is the hard drive, there are plenty of how to videos on YouTube.
