'Acton is now posher than Chiswick'

Well according to Toby Young it is.https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/acton-is-now-posher-than-chiswick/As someone who loves Waitrose but whose life has orientated much more towards Acton and away from Chiswick, this article seems completed divorced from the reality of the situation. Acton's virtue is that it isn't posh but offers practical and good value alternatives to what is available in Chiswick.

I'm a fan of Acton and do most of my shopping there but it doesn't have the range and quality of restaurants that are available on the High Road. Silver Birch and Villa di Geggiano are particular favourites at the moment and there are probably five to eight others which are better than the best Acton has to offer.

If you want good value food in Acton, Churchfield Road is the place to look.  I like the Miracles Cafe.

On a rare visit to the High Road to go to the hairdresser it seemed bleak and quite sad.  Thought I'd get a light meal before I went home to save cooking but place I thought about - crepe affaire - now permanently closed so went down to the cinema. They no longer serve food and the place was cold and almost empty. Everywhere else, such as Zizzis, was expensive for just a plate of pasta and glass of wine.  Ended up at Pizza Express.  Not the High Road it used to be.

The Ealing Project is great as is ActOne. Chiswick's  offering is, from reports, often almost empty.

The Guildford Stranglers? Never heard that one before. JJ Burnell had a place on Strand on the green.The comedian Stewart Lee lived in Hereford road in the late 80s.

Another multi-talented artist Tony Bennett- remember he painted pretty good apart from his singing- always had a love for Acton.It reminded him of his home town growing up: Astoria, a suburb of New York City.

The rules have changed now so you don't need to shop at Sainsbury's to use the car park (as long as you are out within two hours).

Whereas Waitrose returned to Chiswick after a few years' absence. Surely there must have been a good deal of market research behind that decision (though I tend to use Sainsbo's because of the car park).

The first ‘Waitrose’ was in Acton. I think it’s now a food takeaway shop.
