Kew Gardens Orchids

Has anyone been to the Madagascar orchid festival - and could they review it on here  please ? My friend and I went to the Thai Orchids  Fest  and loved it. I went to the Columbian Orchids Fest and felt a bit disappointed. Thanks.

I was lucky enough to visit Kew Gdns and the orchid exhibition yesterday. I dont want to do spoiler alerts for anyone who is yet to visit the exhibition so I will only say that I can see alot of work has gone into the "character" displays that compliment the orchids.On a sadder note I learnt that the yellow Rwanda water lilly which has gone extinct in the wild - was stolen from a display at the Gdns sometime ago. I assume it was stolen for a private collection - and though its not longer available for us joe public to appreciate, I hope its being cherished somewhere and is thriving ? Maybe it will resurface one day.

The whole thing of being shepherded round a set route with no chance of serendipity has got out of hand. Last year I visited the Brighton Pavilion for the first time in, maybe, 30 years: same problem. I shall never go there again.

Touche.I have given up admiring the orchid festival after many decades; likewise many tourist tick-lists, eg the beautiful St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta, Malta.

I've decided not to go this year after about two decades. I feel that all the joy has been sucked out of it: you have to book a timed slot and then are herded round a set route like sheep.Things were better in the Good Old Days!
