It’s imperative that the triple lock is maintained or pensioners will see their pensions dwindling very quickly. Hence, if they need to increase state pension age to 71 in order to maintain triple lock, that would be far preferable and more sustainable. With every working person now also contributing to workplace pensions, they can still retire much earlier than 71 if they choose to; they just have to wait longer to draw the State Pension, which in any event, should just be regarded as a little top up to ones private pension.
