It doesn't seem to click through - there are several options listed but this is the easiest one to access:http://hounslowct.org.uk/furniture-recycling/

There is a list here of local Furniture Re-use Shops
Furniture became far more flammable with the use of foam padding which creates dangerous fumes and smoke. Then it was treated with chemicals which are also a problem. There are new rules about the storage and disposal of upholstered furniture. You do need to find someone who wants a sofa. Once it is considered 'waste' then a whole load more rules come into place concerning storage and disposal.
just put the ad ( free) on https://www.freecycle.org

I remember in the old days, we just gave old sofas to local youth clubs, inflammable or not!

The problem that BHF and other charity shops have is that it is illegal to sell upholstered furniture that is not fire resistant.

www.trashnothing.com is another option to offer your furniture on (an easier way to access freecycle) and so is Petit Miracles in Hammersmith who upcycle stuff. Petit Miracles teach people to upcycle (and make small repairs). They certainly used to collect small items. https://www.petitmiracles.org.uk/explore/I suspect the British Heart Foundation have been too successful in doing this with their collection and I suppose space is always going to be a problem. There are also fewer charity shops.

Yes they took an oak table and left the chairs so left without a set to pass on to someone else, I decided to keep the chairs.

I've found the BHF to be rather picky about what they will and won't take. That might be fair enough from their point of view, but it's a pain to be left with stuff you'd hoped to be rid of.

We have been trying the BHF since November. They keep saying yes but never come through.

Please call the British Heart Foundation and they will collect save that any upholstered furniture must have a fire safety label. They are very prompt and courteous
