Thanks. At the same place in your phone you may notice a fast charge button. I switched that off as well. Fast charge warms the battery and thus shortens its life. That's all I know.

I think even worse are phone batteries. They pointed out to me if the battery was changed the software updates would be discontinued due to age of phone. I bought a new one and learned that to protect the battery you could switch on under batter protection a 85% max charge. Which was in the phone from Sansung, but I only read about on a blog. Charging to 100% shortens life of battery which was pointed out to me on BRENTFORD TW8 forum.

Sometimes parts can be cannibalised from another printer or made on a 3d printer.  Or another repairer turns up.

Sadly, HP printers go on for ever until they fail, normally catastrophically. The issue then is obtaining parts for a printer long out of production and for which HP no longer have a liability to support

There was a fascinating programme on the radio not so long ago about planned obsolescence and no we didn't imagine it.  A right to repair bill has been passed by Govt.  Finding someone or somewhere to mend things is growing but slowly.Does the Chiswick Repair Cafe do this or the Kew the Transition one?

My broken HP printer was still under warranty.I took it back to Curry's.It had a slight fault that would have been easily fixable with a single replacement part. They just binned it and gave me a new one.It was tragic.

Sadly at 20 years old the 4250 probably has very limited parts availablity if any are needed. The only place I knew of locally no longer offers any HP repairs due to parts availablity and HP parts prices.

Whenever i've looked at getting a printer fixed, it has worked out cheaper just to buy a new one. HP will have a list of local approved repairers on their website, but i think you'll find the numbers don't stack up. The business model for most manufacturers is to sell printers cheap to lock you into expensive ink sales.
