Thanks for that Keith.  I have always said I don't claim to be intellectual. I am proud of being a Chiswick Grammar girl but they were turbulent years on a personal level.  I am not political either.  I just say what I think and challenge the likes of Paul Campbell.  They can't throw anything worse than they have at me and I'm still standing and loving the banter. I've no shame in declaring I do read prolifically, mostly Charlie and Lola and Peppa.  I listen to a huge number of podcasts and I am on numerous Facebook pages. I am on X but not Instagram, and I'm hoping for world peace

It's hilarious that people are jumping to Paul's defence on the basis of the original post. He is the master of purience and pathetic name calling and has a thoroughly juvenile sense of humour but so do I and I often find what he says very funny. Many of his targets deserve what they get from him - including myself from time to time.

Mr Fish you need to try to be little more honest.  Rather than write anyything you like to have a go, regardless of facts. Below is clearly Anne NOT trying to draw a line under anything.  The fact that this is Paul Campbell's own well worn saying, proves she needs to know her facts before she gets involved.  I am waiting for her to apologise for getting it so wrong.'motoring addiction'?!? - can you not at least try to be a little more nuanced?  I hope she now takes this up with her good friend Paul and ask him to be more nuanced.The thread was not particularly unpleasant until you and others tried to make it so, just as you are doing now.  Low even for you.  No actually about normal for you.It is horrendously hypocritical if you deliberately avoid the matter of your car ownership while berating motorists , all motorists it seems to me.  You have no knowledge of his mileage do you? You hope he restricts his car use.  I've never seen pictures of his wife on a bike.  Maybe she drives every day.  Many times Paul has insinuated that people like me drive to the corner shop, with no evidence and I find that aggressive , sometimes too aggressive to quote your own words back at you., Finally, everyone is now joining in the joke of Paul's big one, so not offensive really is it, if you have a sense of humour.  You are not covering yourself in glory here.

Anne was probably hoping to draw a line under this silly, and vaguely unpleasant, thread . It's just another opportunity for the OP to express her personal animosity and for others to indulge in pathetic name-calling.I see no hypocrisy if someone who aggressively (perhaps sometimes too aggressively!) promotes cycling nevertheless owns a car, even a big one, provided he makes a sincere effort to restrict his car use to the absolute minimum necessary.

Paul’s silence is not that’s not bothered. It’s that he might finally have to tell us about his car . Not shy normally when he’s slagging off motorists. He doesn’t “do “ embarrassed ,but he’s definitely sitting in a corner wondering what to do . I’d politely suggest people stop answering for him

Copied below for ease of reference.The point about Paul and I should have worded it differently is that he is a motorist and he doesn't admit it (rather than doesn't deny it). He viciously goes for motorists and wishes all sorts of difficulties on them and laughs at their misery. Odd to say the least, but maybe this is his way of fooling people in to not knowing he drives a big car.  Thats the point! So I make no apology when I am right and happy to apologise when I am wrong.  If I don't apologise trust me there's a good reason but I can't always win against the forces and well off people on this forum, and those that understand will get that reference. Why would anyone deny they were a motorist, or a train traveller or a bus taker or a cyclist or a walker or a skier - many of the other things that people do?  He travels as do many people.  What's the problem?  It's no big deal.  Many do all of these things - its horses for courses.  So maybe even a horse-rider as well?
