In 2010, the Liberal Democrats appeared to be on the up, and they had a useful moderating influence during the coalition government. In 2024 they appear to be a busted flush, and their leader is under fire for his failures during his period in government, making it even less likely than it was before the PO scandal blew up that they will attract many votes. IMHO a strong national third party is good for our democracy, and the fact that we no longer have one is regrettable. The LibDems were not taken seriously in 2019 when the choice of leaders offered by the two main parties was between the devil and the deep blue sea, and it is hard to see them having much relevance this time round either.
