Adrian, with regard to your point about there being little conflict between pedestrians and cyclist on this part of the Thames Path, I would agree this is correct for most of the year. I rarely see cyclists using it and, if they do so when it is a quiet part of the day then what harm really particularly as the restriction is unenforceable? It does become an issue on sunny days when the path is crowded and there are also lots of leisure cyclists mainly on Santander or Lime bikes. As I speculated previously, there may be routes posted some where on the internet by 'influencers' recommending this as a great way to see the river and they are not wrong. It may be these people are confused by the signage or they may be well aware that they shouldn't be on their bikes but these hire bikes are heavy so they don't want to push them but they do seem to make up most of those ignoring the rules. The stretch by Thames Crescent is private land so it may be within the discretion of the management company to close this section off to everyone as has recently happened in Brentford in a similar situation. I don't for one second believe that this would be justified, the problem isn't that severe, but if they were looking for an excuse, this could be it.
