Possible 18 metre high mast on Beaconsfield Triangle

The latest update from the very excellent Abundance London is saying that there is a plan to put a telecoms mast on the Beaconsfield Triangle - the piece of green space on Acton Lane up from the Duke of Sussex.Volunteers have spent a lot of time and effort beautifying this area with 6,000 bulbs planted. It comes under the borough of Ealing and I haven't been able to find any planning application relating to the proposal but Ealing seem to go out of their way to keep residents in the dark.While it would be good to stop this mast it would better if people who think there will be death rays emanating from it kept this to themselves. Far better to concentrate on grounds for objection that might actually get it stopped. If think everything is a conspiracy you might want to focus on why Ealing Council are proposing to take this very location out of a conservation area just as the mast is being proposed.

Although we should be grateful to those who give their time to make our area better, I don't see how putting a mast at the southern tip of this site would reduce the value of their efforts other than the loss of a fairly small section of the green space.

Jen, your efforts are appreciated and I hope you didn't interpret my comments as diminishing them. Insect and bird life in the area does seem to be regenerating and this must, in part, be due to initiatives like this one.

I get really quite depressed talking to people who cannot get good phone coverage or stable internet in W4.  If some of the smaller masts were allowed we would not have these companies coming again and again looking for green spaces and schools to put them up on.  If we are lucky then the masts we need will be placed on some of the high rise bildings being planned then all the carers and older or poorer folk of W4 who can't afford newer mobile phones of the G ilk will get better coverage of the ones they have got

I'm one of the dozens of volunteers who has spent hundreds of hours working on Beaconsfield Garden (or 'Triangle' ?!?) over the last 18 months under the guidance of Abundance London.  We've planted about a squillion bulbs, mowed paths, planted hundreds of plants for pollinators, built bug hotels, painted fences, removed miles of bindweed, re-staked trees, removed dead trees, removed bags and bags of litter.  Loads of lovely locals proudly donate their time on a regular basis.  In November we did our latest volunteering activity which involved planting thousands of tulips to extend the flowering season.  If you didn't see it last year, make sure you go there in spring and you'll see how it's transformed from an unloved strip of grass - primarily used for dog poop - into one of the prettiest and insect friendliest green places in Chiswick.

Proposed removal of conservation area status from this strip of land might have  encouraged this mast application. Maybe they can grow a variegated ivy up it.

The designation seems to be a new one but I have heard people describe it this way. It is probably a bit of strategic rebranding like 'Old Market Place' and I have no problem with this if it helps protect it.I don't disagree that its value can be overstated. I rarely, if ever, see anybody on it. The nearby option of Acton Green Common is where people would go but it is still a valuable bit of green space in a densely populated area.

I've lived about 100 metres from this piece of land for roughly 40 years and never heard it called the 'Beaconsfield Triangle' before.I don't have strong views about the mast, but the notion this is a well loved local area of natural interest is a bit of a stretch.

Does the 56 day implied permission introduced by Two Jags Prescott under PPG9 no longer apply then?It used to be the way that mobile operators drove a cart and horses through LA planning. No objection in 56 days, build it.

How have 5ginmerton.com had so much success in getting masts refused then ?local councillors - good for a giggle but nothing else Im afraid. I have much personal experience of that from them unfortunately.

Permission has not been granted and it should go out for consultation. Ward Councillors have already objected and are in touch with local residents who, as is noted have done so much work on Beaconsfield Gardens.

Yes Anna, the telecoms companies are paying me to recommend to people affected by their mast applications not to waste their time raising health concerns which would be ignored and focus on matters such as the impact on the street scene, loss of amenity space and Conservation Area status which are the only grounds on which refusal could be justified.

It will need formal planning permission - don't know in which borough this is proposed. Both Ealing and Hounslow have successfully resisted some installations but you need to get in before the planners come to a conclusion (I was caught by one I knew nothing about until the contractors came to install it).There is an assumption in planning law that permission will be given for these and it's difficult for planners to resist unless there is a cogent reason so if you don't like it (I know Abundance don't) then somebody, preferably a relevant ward councillor would be good - should raise concerns pronto.

Don't bother with the link. It is well presented but still the same pseudo-science about health concerns that the planning authorities won't even bother to review if you bring them up. What Abundance London seems to be suggesting is that this is a done deal with work due to start so it may be too late to do anything about it. The conspiracy theorists might actually serve a useful purpose if they highlighted these applications before they proceeded.

Contact  5ginmerton.com  they have had alot of success in stopping councils putting up masts and will give you useful advice on how to proceed.
