Why does Biden continue to give unconditional moral support and provide arms to the monstrous Netanyahu government? The US veto of the UN Security Council ceasefire resolution yesterday was   utterly shameful, as was the UK's pusillanimous abstention. A true friend of Israel would call for an end to the slaughter in Gaza. Israel will never completely exterminate Hamas by these means. Instead it will guarantee the implacable hatred of Palestinians for generations. Far from resolving Israel's security problems, the violence will merely perpetuate them.

I think theres a tendency to lump anyone religion and any one nationality as all being the same and having the same views on everything ? Consider that in Christianity - The Jehovas Witnesses for example may not have a great deal in common with Roman Catholics for example but both come under "christian". A peron living in rural Northumbria might not have much in common in daily life with a person living in Whitechapel but both are "English".  So it is with Israel. There are different ethnic groups among the Jews and many differing beliefs etc. for example there is a group called Jews For Justice For Palestine, you can read about them at  www.greenolivetours.com

But it's not "collateral" damage. It's clearly deliberate policy to massacre civilians, as evidenced by the statements of both Ministers and the military. The intention, wholly misguided, is to terrorise the civilian population so that it ceases to support Hamas. The reality is the opposite: support for Hamas is hardening because of Israel's actions.Israel will never eliminate Hamas with these tactics. If the war drags on for several months more, as Israel suggests may be necessary, how many more thousands of innocents will be killed in the meantime? An eye for an eye? The ratio is already about 16:1.

You do understand the tactics used by Hamas, using civilians as human shields, civilians they don't care a damn for?Hamas must never be given the opportunity to regroup and commit the carnage on their neighbours again.War is a horrible business but in the circumstances collateral damage is unavoidable.Everybody shares your concern me included.

Understandably? It's understandable they'd want to destroy Hamas. But 19,000 civilian victims - women and children and easily identifiable journalists? How is this indiscriminate slaughter helping to save the 130 hostages still held by Hamas? Netanyahu doesn't care. He is consumed by vengeance. The fact that "the might of the USA is fully behind this sentiment" explains, but doesn't justify the Israeli government's recalcitrance. Indeed, the unconditional support of the USA over 75 years of Israel's oppression of Palestinians goes to the heart of the problem.

Robert, Israeli retaliations have been continuing since the 6 Day war and beyond. This time Israel is understandably hell bent on eradicating Hamas. Our PM, Sir Keir and the might of the USA are fully behind this sentiment.

What a one-sided view, Denis! The whole world expected Israel to react with full force against Hamas, and justifiably so. But who would have expected Israel to exact such terrible vengeance against a captive civilian population? If you are trying to say that Hamas bears responsibility for the slaughter of civilians in Gaza because they should have foreseen the Israeli reaction, then you are effectively condemning the essentially cruel nature of  the Netanyahu administration. Netanyahu is clearly utterly indifferent to the plight of Gaza residents, and appears to show no more concern for the Israeli hostages. He will end up being condemned just as much by his fellow-citizens as by the rest of the world.

Netanyahu is on trial in Jerusalem for fraud, breach of trust & accepting bribes. The court case has been going on for 3 years; temporarily suspended for "emergency wartime" but the trial has now restarted.

Polling conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Policy and Survey Research this week found that 44% of respondents in the occupied West Bank said they supported Hamas, up from 12% in September. In Gaza, the militants have 42% support, up from 38% three months ago. Israel's terror tactics are clearly not having the desired effect of turning Gaza residents against Hamas. Instead, coupled with unrestrained settler attacks, the war on Hamas is serving only to increase tension in the West Bank. Biden urgently needs to rethink his support for the criminal Netanyahu government.

I don't often wholeheartedly agree with you,Robert but this is one of those occasions when I couldn't agree with you more.A better message for the West to send would be the provision of hospital ships off the coast instead of warships and to stop supplying munitions to Israel.I would also like to see the countries of the region making greater efforts to achieve peace,although I like all of us,don't really know what is happening behind the scenes in that regard.

There is also plenty that we do know for sure.We know that this did not start on 7 October 2023 as some would still choose to tell us.We also know a lot from the records of Resolutions and Votes  at the UN Security Council.We know much more nowadays and much faster nowadays than we did when there were extremist attacks in the area in the past eg Lord Moyne's assassination and the King David Hotel bombing!

None of us are on the ground in this or in the other conflicts around the world. We rely and trust on 3rd parties to be truthful in their reporting to us but truth and human nature dont always make good bedfellows.
