Many thanks for the comments and suggestions.The TV is an LG Smart. The cables were all labelled so I’m pretty certain they are connected correctly. From the TV to the Virgin Tivo box is an HDMI, from the Tivo is an optical/audio cable to the amplifier. The strange thing is, that channels from the Tivo Box are fine and come through the amp and speakers but the apps on the smart TV such as Netflix, Apple TV+ etc only come via the TV speaker. I have gone through the TV settings all to no avail. First world problems I know, but nonetheless very frustrating.
