TV Set up

I've just bought a new TV and despite my best efforts - and I'm normally quite good at these set ups I'm unable to get audio via my amplifier and have (reluctantly) given up. Does anyone know of a TV/Home entertainment type person who could help??

No problem, I spent too many hours (forgive me) buggering about and swearing at my LG TV trying to get the sound working. Whatever you do, make a note of the settings you use in case it updates (been there, didn't do that, cue more swearing 🤣).

Ok, that helps,as I too have an LG smart TV.Which audio output have you selected in the settings menu on the TV? Hopefully HDMI as the TV will not see the optical connection directly.

Many thanks for the comments and suggestions.The TV is an LG Smart. The cables were all labelled so I’m pretty certain they are connected correctly. From the TV to the Virgin Tivo box is an HDMI, from the Tivo is an optical/audio cable to the amplifier. The strange thing is, that channels from the Tivo Box are fine and come through the amp and speakers but the apps on the smart TV such as Netflix, Apple TV+ etc only come via the TV speaker. I have gone through the TV settings all to no avail. First world problems I know, but nonetheless very frustrating.

When confronted with a similar dilemma, I ended up ignoring all the new sockets and plugging from the TVs headphone socket into my amplifier. But then I wasn’t after 5.1 super-surround.

Think we need to know what your reciever offers in input types. You should have HDMI ARC on new TV but what does the reciever offer? No idea but you might even need a ARC extractor which will come from tv as HDMI and into the reciever as rca audio cable with the ARC extractor inbetween. Are you selecting correct input on tv or reciever for setup?

this should be simple to solve on here.  What cable have you chosen to output from your TV to the amp  ,  hdmi  ,  optical or other ? And do you have prior proof that you have used that cable before in another setup and it works.

Curry's, I did enquire with them but they said they couldn't help as it wasn't a fault with their product. I just need a TV tech savvy someone willing to visit...

From where did you buy it? Many retailers offer a setup service.
