Farewell Bobby Charlton, England's greatest footballer
I watched Manchester United play Arsenal at Highbury, early 1958, with me Dad, front row of Highbury's listed East stand, early February 1958.I was in awe of that Manchester team, labelled the Busby Babes and included the great Duncan Edwards and a 20 year old Bobby Charlton.A pulsating game ended 5/4 to Man Utd, both Duncan Edwards and Bobby Charlton, twice, scoring and spoiling my day.Six days later on a runway at Munich airport 23 people died including 8 of Bobby Charlton's teammates. From that day, 6th February 1958, right up to his retirement in 1973 Bobby Charlton played the beautiful game, on and off the field, respected by all nationalities.Farewell Bobby Charlton, the backdrop to millions of aspiring football wannabes.
