PS.If ypu really want to help a healthy environment in yur garden,in my opinion you should only feed the small birds.People who feed wild predators like feral cats,foxes etc are not doing any good at all.Both of these are the natural predator of the rat and should be encouraged,by not feedng them,to get on with the natural order of things.By feeding them,you are destroying that natural order,imo,by an unnatural intervention.

They are all fed, I've always put food out for the birds, the ferel cats havealways been here my cat was one of them, I love wildlife and enjoywatching them, I know most people wouldn't bother but I have alwaysloved animals.  They certainly get along better than humans do at the moment.

Keith, the fox has been visiting since it was a cub, it had mange so I gotTreatment from National Fox Welfare and it got better, there are lots of others but this one visits every day and the reason I started feeding it wasto get it better but had to treat all the others as well but they are in the lane so had to scatter it around so each got some medication.  Will say pigeonsstay away which I'm pleased about.

But nowhere near as many as there were.Animals are motivated almost exclusively by two things,food and hockmagandy as they say north of the border.The later,usually for a month or two of any year,the former always.The magpie you saw playfully pecking the foxes tail had probably just had it's food stolen,it wasn't frolicking around in some kind of coexistent idyll.

I have lived in London nearly 50 years and have never seen a hedgehog.Amazing really, as it's a bustling metropolis and hardly their natural environment.Anyway,they have possibly been killed by cats,dogs,foxes or humans.

Those of you making comments about irresponsible pet owners seem to be missing the point.  It's the earth shattering explosions that terrify pets.  Even with curtains drawn and background noise, an explosion that makes us jump sounds even worse to animals whose hearing is even more sensitive to noise.

There are so many thousands of irresponsible pet owners around who don’t care for their ‘pets’ or are too thick to understand how to care for them, which is why the Nanny State has to do it for them through legislation. Last night on GB NEWS there was a news item on attacks on the police with fireworks in several English towns. I don't remember this happening so much in previous years. It is now citizens under attack!

This does not get my supportThe proposal is concerned about people with PTSD and sensory issues but supports professional displays which are louder and noisier.The usual complaints about harm to animals.  Birds will fly away.  Foxes will hunker down.  Both are used to living in a noisy city.   Any one who is concerned about their cat or dog should not have brought them into a city in the first place.  Neither animal belongs in an city environment and both do more harm to wildlife than a few days of fireworks.

The majority of adults  I know attend firework displays for the sake of their children.  Many very young children cover their ears or are in tears because of the noise.  I do think there are more important things in life.  Sparklers and jacket potatoes on a small fire is quite often enough for some children.

I once read a theory that a lot of adults who set off fireworks are simply suffering from some kind of inadequacy; whereby they feel they're unable to sufficiently impress themselves on other people. As dutiful parents, and in community spirit, took kids to the Harrods fields in Barnes some years ago to watch the fireworks display and it was my daughter who actually ‘showed us the light’ because she hated the display and noise and was very distressed and upset about the effect on animals. She never ever wanted to go again.

Signed.  No excuse for terrorising animals. Any fireworks that aren't 'silent - ie low noise - should be banned.  As that's unlikely to happen, just ban them all.

By far the best fireworks display I have ever seen was in Hyde Park almost 40 years ago as the culmination of a Japanese festival, amazing paintings filling the whole sky and all without a single bang or indeed whimper. A rare thing of beauty and joy.

I think a ban on sales to the general public is overdue. Organised displays would continue. Its no longer one or two nights of fireworks.
