This is beyond everything  I have heard from her - … I am completely appalled… who on earth does she think she is- enough said.

Thanks for the heads-up about the petition, Alastair. I've signed, and passed on the link.What a despicable, heartless and malevolent Home Secretary we have! Note that, even as she shows her complete lack of compassion for the homeless, she contrives to demonise foreigners at the same time. I'm just amazed she keeps on getting away with ever more outrageous statements. We haven't heard this sort of discourse in almost half a century - since Enoch Powell, who of course was sacked by Ted Heath. Sunak's not got the guts to kick Cruella out of his cabinet.

People who choose to live in our streets under blankets and tents are offered homes, together with food and access to the NHS.Fact.Despite this hand of help offered by our social services many choose to seek out the enclosed High street shop fronts, and nooks and crannies running off them.Of course I am aware that the vast majority of these unfortunate people are cursed by the effects of alcoholism and drugs. I pity their plight and like to think some will take up a form of rehabilitation.However it doesn't have to be like this; I don't want the streets I live and walk in every day looking like some shanty town or resembling downtown Las Vegas where begging, death and God knows what else is prominent.So bravo Braverman, clean up our streets and free them from filth and squalor.

Denis, it takes a long time for them to be offered a home if ever, they managed to house them during Covid.

Don't want to go on too much but also they are expected to shareaccommodation which never works as they cannot trust each other andend up back on the street and keeping to themselves, they don't have much if anything and don't want to to lose it.

The problem affects far more people than a few down-and-outs and drug addicts. High interest rates have increased the demand for rented accomodation and rising rents and no-fault evictions have left many people homeless. We have a Home Secretary who loves this country to the extent she wants to protect its borders, to align population growth with infrastructure, to protect its citizens against illegal immigrants, some wishing us harm, to protect our traditions (watch out for trouble next weekend when pro Palestinians attempt to override Armistice day and  Remembrance Sunday).A Conservative MP once said that Suella takes the path of most resistance, hence her choice of adjectives and phraseology sometimes upsets people.So be it, rather a wishy-washy Home Secretary who plays safe and gives in to the SSM, give me a tough one who wants a safe place for us to live in, with all its laws and traditions to remain intact.

The other people seriously affected are new refugees - because Braverman’s own policy is to grant asylum speedily at the moment to diminish the backlog and then evict new refugees with SEVEN DAYS notice. Of course many, most even are threatened with street homelessness. No-one with no job, bank account, income, who has been kept in limbo and forbidden to work for maybe two years, in a foreign country, can possibly find accommodation in a week.Some charities, like Refugees ant Home,  are trying to arrange hosting to fill that gap. Others - Care 4Calais and our local drop-in are giving tents to people forced to sleep under bridges because of a specific policy of this Home Secretary. Are they to be penalised, fined or whatever for showing some compassion?Some life-style choice!

Janice, The tents are a red herring issue: it is Suella's language "Some people choose living outdoors as their choice of lifestyle" that appears to rub people up the wrong way.That is why I mentioned her sance on illegal immigration: "an invasion of boat people"..

Denis, they might choose to live outdoors rather than share with others who will take their belongings, its a choice they are forced to make and not because they like it.  If given a place of their own, even a caravan I'm suremost would accept it rather than freeze to death.
