Acton Lane roadworks

Morning. Chiswick seemed very congested this morning. Is Acton Lane fully open yet does anyone know? Thanks.

Walking past at about 4pm yesterday, it was pretty clear from all the open trenches that the road would not be reopening any time soon.

Still closed and they were digging holes rather than filling them in. Lots of activity on the scene though. The signage seems to be a disaster - lots of vehicles turning up into Acton Lane and encountering the closed road. Some were doing a u-turn at the roundabout and some were driving through Sainsbury's car park.

Meanwhile, in a soundproof bunker in Hounslow, the £37,000 a year Haounslow Cabinet member with the Transport portfolio merely chants "lala lala la" either oblivious or totally unconcerned by the chaos on the streets under her watch.

What do you suggest she should do? The work wasn't initiated by the council and almost definitely overran because of the very heavy rain.

Communicate!These are not the only roadworks causing chaos especially those on the A4 and Windmill Road Brentford which have been ongoing in various guises for over two years. Cllr.Lambert has at least made some effort to provide updates while the portfolio holder, Cllr Dunne is quieter than Marcel Marceau.Hounslow deserves FAR better.

We need more than communication. It does little to alleviate the problem. Unless we stay home. I’m sure that would suit some. Whilst I don’t know how these things work, aren’t there permits required from someone to allow coordination of these works. If not then it’s time someone changed the system

I was aware of the Acton Lane closure beforehand because it was flagged on this site. There were also notification signs placed near the route. What else should the council have done?As previously pointed out these works were scheduled for half term. Them not finishing on time has shown how sensible that was.

It is not just these works as I said and the whole topic of mismanagement and lack of management needs opening up. The Acton Lane works impact on other works in providing an effective gridlock. Cllr. Dunne is,as ever, silent

The road is now reopen and there is a detailed explanation of what exactly happened on the front page. From my point of view, Hounslow Council/Hounslow Highways did the only thing they could do and SSE should bear the brunt of the blame for the congestion that was caused.

Indeed they should. However the situation could have been mitigated to a degree if the portfolio holder had communicated the fact that she had been in contact with SSE (which I doubt that she had). This only leaves all of the other long term roadworks on which she has been totally silent.
